During the day LO takes a lot of naps and he absolutely adores his activity mat so after a feeding I'll put him under that and turn on his toy that sings and lights up and it plays for about ten minutes and then he's ready for another nap. He then has a long awake period from 5-9 when we all talk to him and hold/sit with him. Sometimes I feel bad just sticking him under the mat but he loves it so much and gets aggravated when I just try to talk or read to him like he wants to do something more. So how do you play with your LO?
Side note: we go out a lot most days, these are just for days like today where I'm not feeling well and we stay in all day.

Had our precious baby girl, Little Miss E, on August 14, 2013 ♥ 143 → I.love.you. ♥

For play other than the mat, we work on getting him to "stand" to strengthen his legs and try to grasp at things, and make Oggly faces to get him to reacte. There's not a whole lot of traditional play since he's not very reactive yet at 6 weeks. And We take lots of walks - he really likes the fresh air.

We use an activity gym also. she loves it.
When I have him in my arms I always talk to him and sing. I'll take his hands and we'll do/sing Father Abraham.
He also loves to lay in his bassinet (but he won't sleep in the darn thing!!) and talk to the bears that hang on the mobile. He has quite the conversation with Mr and Mrs bear. A lot of the time I engage in the conversation.
I've read that it's helpful to repeat the noises they make and even if you're just carrying him into the kitchen, tell him what you're doing, what you're seeing, etc.

I play with my LO, but I don't believe I need to entertain her every minute she is awake. If your LO isn't fussing on the playmat, it is because he/she is enjoying it.
I just move my LO room to room with me, explain what I am doing, read books and sing her songs.
