veggies

How are you feeding LO veggies?  I steam carrots and mash sweet potato, she gags on broccoli.

Re: veggies

  • M only eats veggies if they're seasons.  Even if I just add pepper, she loves it.  She also really likes garlic.

  • We do roasted zucchini, sweet potato sticks, red bell pepper. Steamed or lightly sauteed for broccoli, brussel sprouts.  Frozen peas and green beans we just thaw.

  • I steam and purée fresh carrots, peas, or green beans. He likes baked sweet potato or squash when it's mashed up. On occasion, I'll give him pumpkin purée (out of a can). We haven't tried broccoli yet.

  • F looooves veggies.  He ate some eggplant the other night!

His favorites are green beans steamed with butter and pepper, broccoli steamed really well with lemon and butter, steamed carrots/baked sweet potatoes with cinnamon, and raw tomato.  He likes pureed peas a lot, but I haven't given him those any way but pureed.

I think the trick with the broccoli is to steam it really mushy and give them pieces with lots of the crown and not a lot of the stalk.  He also really seems to like the lemon on it.  I tried it with butter and pepper, and with garlic but he didn't seem to really like it those ways.

  • H loves broccoli, peas, corn, steamed carrots, zucchini, and spinach. I use mostly frozen vegetables and cook small portions for him at a time. He also likes grilled and roasted veggies. He only has two teeth, so if something has a "skin" that's harder to deal with, he doesn't like it as much. Tomatoes are hit or miss.

  • Sautéed carrots til really soft, sliced diagonally.
Baked squash and sweet potato served in chunks.
Peas, green beans and corn are usually from frozen and just steamed.
Potatoes have been scalloped, mashed, baked, fried (this if we are having breakfast for dinner).
    Asparagus, steamed, cut in half.
Green, red, yellow and orange peppers are sautéed or bbq'd then cut into strips.
    Tomatoes are raw, diced.

    Not a fan of broccoli.
DH isn't a veggie fan at all, so I haven't gone overboard in the veggies yet.

I generally season with pepper, sometimes garlic powder and occasionally a touch of salt. He hasn't rejected anything completely yet.
  • I just give her soft-cooked or sauteed veggies cut into bite-sizes.  I either chop up what we are eating (in its regular seasoning or sauce we are eating), or steam something just for her.  She has liked everything so far: carrots, sweet potatoes, winter squash, eggplant, zucchini, cauliflower, broccoli, asparagus, beets, parsnips, chard, peas, onions, celery, mushrooms, leeks, potatoes....

I have pureed the spinach, chard, onion/celery (usually mixed with other stuff) and skin-on eggplant because I think it is too fibrous to mash with her gums, but she also can do skinless sautéed eggplant if it gets soft enough.
