Finding heartbeat with doppler (question)

Let me start out by saying, I haven't had any trouble finding the heartbeat at all after about 12 weeks. Saturday I will be 18 weeks. I wanted to listen to LOs heartbeat a little bit ago. I did it how I always do it and I couldn't find the heartbeat.. I moved it around more and still I couldn't find it. I honestly almost started crying. Then I got the idea of checking lower. Usually I find the heartbeat a little below my belly button.. this time I found it back at my hairline... like LO moved down almost 3 inches.

Anyone else finding the heartbeat lower at this stage in the game? I will admit I am a little nervous cause I don't know what to expect.. I have never been this far along before. I just figured my uterus would be growing and coming out of my pelvic region and now it seems to have went back. I found the heartbeat at about where I would find it in week 13-14.

Should I be concerned?

Re: Finding heartbeat with doppler (question)

  • No- it's going to depend on baby's position. I have trouble sometimes because she is on the higher side and I have some fat to try and listen through where as when she was lower the fat isn't there so it was easier.
  • Loading the player...
  • I'm 17 weeks and my baby is always very low right above my hair line
  • At this point I picture my uterus as a giant pool that takes up my entire abdomen because I swear that kiddo can be darn near anywhere.  I'm exaggerating, of course, but I find her HB anywhere in a 4"~6" circle centered about halfway between my belly button and hair line.  When I see the Youtube videos of people ( with super flat stomachs ... grr ) who move the wand around the same inch on their belly I'm in awe and think I must be broken for my baby to move around as much as she does.

I'm also 17 weeks and sometimes just above hair line and sometimes an inch or so higher. I think maybe he turns around????

Same...and baby moves like crazy. Hard to get a consistent reading

I was concerned a few days ago, bc mine was back down by my hair line. Today, though, hb was several inches higher. I think they just have more room to move around.
Thank you for commenting.. this makes me feel better. With my PGaL brain starting to go full swing, I was actually even wondering if I should walk around.. or if I would mess something up in there.. or I was wondering if I did something and it caused my uterus to drop. I hate, hate, hate PGaL brain!! I just can't wait until this baby is born so I can quit worrying so much. My anatomy scan is in 19 days and I know I will feel much relief when I can see LO again.

  • I was worrying about this Sunday when I used my doppler. I was 18 weeks 1 day and thought that the hairline was too low. Today I'm feeling kicks by my belly button so I'm guessing there's just a lot of room in there :) my Pgal brain gets the best of me often!

I'm feeling better knowing I am not the only one. Thank you

  • Mine moves all of the time. Sometimes it's really low by the hair line and other time it is up real close to my belly button either toward the left or right side.
  • DH usually finds baby around my belly button, but the other day it was way down by my hair line. I'm 17 weeks and some change. I have also felt kicks right below my belly button so baby must just be moving around a lot more.
