April 2013 Moms

Please tell me this is somewhat normal...

Connor keeps bashing his face into the mattress. I do not know if it is his nose or eyes bothering him or just his way of soothing lol. His nose has been runny and congested since his tooth came in and around the same time he started bashing his face into the bed over and over while he is on his stomach. It doesn't seem to bother him, most times he even smiles or laughs especially when I ask him what he is doing. His primary way of self soothing was rubbing his face into something..

Please tell me my son isn't getting damaged doing this...lol

Re: Please tell me this is somewhat normal...

  • My DD rubs the crap out of her face to soothe herself and kicks her legs like a mad woman. Could definitely be a soothing mechanism. Maybe just keep and eye on him. I doubt a baby could exert enough force to hurt themselves.

  • My LO has started clasping both hands together and hitting himself in the mouth really hard, doesn't seem to be hurting himself ....

  • Haha. Awesome! I'm sure it's not bad. I read at some point why infants enjoy hitting their head against walls... Although I can't actually remember why, it's probably along the same lines.

  • Ella has been smothering her face into the mattress makes me nervous but it makes her happy

I hope not, I do not need holes in the walls... my husband and I have hard heads.. long time ago we butted heads to see who can last the longest (Shh the electricity was out so we were bored).. I won.

He knows not to do this when he is on the floor though.. he will still act like he is about to bash it but then he stops a few inches from the ground.

Babies have funny ways of soothing.

  • Mine slams her head into the corner of the crib over and over before sleeping. We finally put up bumpers to help.

I have no idea if that's "normal" or safe... Assuming its fine and if it hurt he would stop. Probably just playing and realizing its something fun to do for now and to make mommy worry! Lol I will say this though, he sounds like quite a little character!
Yeah he is a ham. lol

@CoffeeMonster19 and @Clgsquared thank you for making me feel better about it lol.

He's not :)  My son would vigorously rub his face back and forth into the crib mattress to get to sleep.  Just what he did.  I promise he isn't damaged.

TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!

Last ditch FET resulted in BFP, and identical twin girls!

  • Babies are strange. DD used to lift her legs and pound her feet into the mattress repeatedly. It was so loud that my sister was convinced her heels would be bruised the morning after we shared a hotel room. DS loves to chew on his hands super hard.

    Mine too!! Exactly!

@canukmam my little one does the same thing, lol.
  • My LO has started hitting himself in the face randomly.  Anything that makes a different noise or feeling he does repeatedly. It's probably something he discovered and is exploring lol. @ ClandestineX I love the pic with the headphones btw.  So cute!
