Working Moms

Advice?

Hi working moms, just looking for words of wisdom. I am an ICU nurse and am going back to full time next week. I had to cut to half time when I went back to work due to DD being high needs. She could not take a bottle, had colic, silent reflux, torticollis therapy. All is better now but I swear I have PTSD from it all and am kind of a helicopter mom because of it. Going back I will be day and evening shifts and she had never beenfull days of daycare and I am feeling stressed about even less sleep, balancing it all, funding time to pump, and worried that she will end up looking the daycare lady better than me since she spends her time there! Also freaking out about what the change in schedule will do to her. I know I am being a spazz but I can't help it. Any advice for those who make it work daily?

  • Where will your LO be in DC? Is it close to work or home? If it's close to work, take advantage and visit when you can. We chose a DC near my office so I could nurse on my lunch breaks. One less pumping session, plus more time with LO. Aside from that, what did you do for torticollis therapy? My guy had it too, but the pedi never seemed too concerned about it, but we still did some stuff on our own and I swear he has a preference now, especially when he's tired, for which way to lay his head.

ETA: computer was stupid and posted twice.
  • Babies will never love anyone more than their momma!  You will find ways to manage (everyone is different) and that will work for you and LO.  Everything is trial and error.  Let the little things that you can't control slide.  Create a schedule and ensure you have a proper space to do your daily pumping sessions.  Some days you will feel like you are not producing enough, then the next day you will produce more than you thought you would.  You will figure it out. There isn't a manual for this stuff.
