Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

For any who have had a natural miscarriage...

How long did it take your number to come down? Or, I guess even with a d&c, were your numbers down immediately? I really want my body to handle this if it can. I am on day 10 of bleeding, though the last 2-3 have been very light. My doc suggested the d&c because my numbers went from 356 to 386 from days 3-8 of bleeding after doubling for the last week and a half. She agreed to run my bloodwork again on Thursday before the scheduled d&c on Monday. If my body is doing its job, I'm ok not rushing it. Ovaries and tubes are clear, and ultrasound showed my lining was thinning.

Any advice?

  • She was vague. It wasn't until she saw my hcg that she suggested it. During my appointment Monday, she agreed my body was doing its job. But from what I've read, hcg can still take a while after a d&c. So confusing. She scheduled me to come in tomorrow so we can discuss further. Just wanted to hear "real life" experiences with hcg drops.

  • I've had both a natural MC and MMC that I chose to have a D&C. I have never had hcg's checked. I work in an OB office, my docs only follow hcg's if a molar pregnancy was suspected.

So if a woman is bleeding, the doc would assume all is taking care of itself? Why must all docs be so different?? :)

  • I have had 2 where my HCG was followed. The first took a good 3-4 weeks to go down to zero but that was because I was almost 10 weeks along and we had seen the HB. This one I'm already at 45, thank goodness, one thing my body can do correctly. See where you are tomorrow, if it's not significantly lower than 300 you may want to consider the D&C. If nothing else it will allow you to physically move on. Hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions, happy to share my experiences.

  • My OB (which is not in the office that I work in), and also the docs in the office I work in are concerned if bleeding lasts longer than 3 weeks, or is unusually heavy (soaking pads hourly). At that point, they would do an US to determine treatment. My OB did not even require I return to the office for a follow up unless I was having problems. I guess they are all different. I am pretty happy with the less intervention.
  • Thank you so much for your replies, ladies. I hate, hate, hate that you all have experience and can answer my questions, but I'm so grateful for your willingness to share. My hope is that maybe my levels had gone up and were on their way down between days 3 and 8 of bleeding. We shall see.

    Thank you again!
