Talk to me about your monitors

We are planning on just using an old regular monitor (actually the one my parents used for me) until girls on my monthly board started talking about these "new features".  I know it's going to be different with twins.

Did you use 2 monitors?
Did you use the video ones?
What features were important to you?

Thank you!!!

Re: Talk to me about your monitors

  • Hi! I have the motorola video monitor. We live in an apartment complex which is loud so when I am doing things around the apartment I can look at them and its helpful for me, however my friend who has twins just used a regular monitor and she loved it. So I guess to help you if you need a little piece of mind and live in a noisy area then video maybe helpful!

  • I have triplets - and I would definitely suggest a good monitor with camera and night vision. We have the ability to talk on ours too but we never used that feature.
Now, we never wanted or could bedshare so they have always slept in their cribs in their room, so having the monitor allows us to see who is the one making noise, are they up etc. It's very handy. Our house isn't noisey and it's small and originally I thought the same as you - I would use a regular monitor. BOY AM I HAPPY WE Upgraded, especially in the early days. Just my opinion. GL
  • Oh and we only use one monitor as ours can pan the room (rotate up and down, and can zoom in too). We use both these features.
  • I also have the Motorola with 2 cameras and love love love it. I like that I can see what's going on rather than just guessing by hearing them. I can see if someone's playing instead of napping (now that they're older) and when they were little and we just moved them to their room it gave me huge peace of mind that I could check on them without constantly going up to their room and possibly disturbing them. I highly recommend it.

We have a Foscam 8910 and use an app on our phones as the monitor. We LOVE it! It has the same capabilities pp mentioned and the night vision definitely comes in handy.

Eta: we only have one camera
  • Thanks for the model number!

  • We have a Motorola video camera too. We only have one camera but rotates so we can see in both babies cribs. It also has night vision and we can talk to them as well. We haven't used it yet as my girls are in the NICU but it seems like exactly what we will need.
  • I also have the motorola one with a video camera that rotates. So I have one camera in the nursery, but I'm about to buy a 2nd for the play room. I started out with a summer infant video one (one that isn't made anymore) but it died so this is actually my 2nd monitor. What I dislike about the motorola one is that it's a PITA to carry around. My old summer infant one had a belt clip and the button to turn the screen on was on top. This motorola one has all the buttons on the side, which means I can't put it in a pocket b/c the buttons get pressed. And it has no belt clip so I have to hold it if I walk around. It's the stupidest design. But otherwise, I LOVE having a video monitor. I can see if they're sleeping, if they're about to throw their blankets out of their cribs and scream, if DS2 is crying b/c he lost his paci (which means I need to go in there) or some other reason that doesn't necessitate me going into his room. one time I caught DS1 trying to climb out and stopped him in time. I can turn the monitor on and record them with my phone. I have some really cute footage of them playing together in their cribs. The motorola monitor also has a talk feature so I can be downstairs and tell them to "GO TO SLEEP!" or "DON'T THROW THAT BLANKET" and they listen b/c it's like God telling them what to do from the sky, lol.
  • We don't have a video monitor, never have. We actually didn't even have a monitor in the beginning at all bc our house is small and I could hear everything from everywhere in our house. Seriously we need a new house, haha!
