Vacation Woes

DH, LO and I are on a beach vacation with my parents and it's awful. No relaxation. She is SUCH a happy baby but the separation anxiety has kicked in to overtime, so I can't get out of her sight. Beach time: blows, pun intended. The wind is awful for a 5 month old. We have a big tent keeping us in the shade but that's it. I feel awful. We wanted her soooooo badly and now are super annoyed that our vacation has gone to crap. You SAHMs are warriors!!! No point except to whine. :-(

  • Sorry to hear that! Hopefully you can have some relaxing time once LO goes to bed for the night and maybe tomorrow won't be so windy.

  • Hugs. Hard to enjoy vacation with a fussy baby. I hope she gets anap or two and you can sneak out for some rest on the beach!

  • Vacations aren't quite the same with a little one.  Being away from home throws them all out of whack and makes things pretty rough.  Will your parents babysit at all and let you and YH have a morning or an afternoon or an evening to yourselves?  I hope things calm down and you are able to relax a little.  It will get better as she gets older.

This was the exact lesson that DH and I learned this summer as well. Our LO also didn't want to sleep when we tried to go away and would only do so if she was laying on my chest.... It was very disapointing so I know how you feel. I'm optimistic that next summer will be easier.

Yeah, it isn't a vacation anymore!  Our worst year was when DS was 2 and DD was 1 - They were both all over the place in the un-babyproofed home we were renting.  And they didn't sleep.  I couldn't wait to get home!  Now I have just lowered my expectations ;)
There was a great article on huffington post in August about this exact phenomenon - With Kids you take trips, not vacations....

  • @laura1 thanks for the link. We needed that laugh! And thanks everyone else for accepting my whininess!

Today has been much better. DH and I went out last night after LO fell asleep, then today the stayed in the room with her for a bit while DH and I had some amazing alone time on the beach. It's also not as windy today so that helps!

@fullfhope yes! We got her one our first day here and that seemed to help some.

  • Man sounds like your an DH just need to get out for a day while your there on YOUR own. It wares on you I definitely give SAHM props. I couldn't do it. As much as I would love to I think part time would be perfect. Try to enjoy your vacation and if she needs to cry a little a little crying never hurt anyone to keep some sanity.
