DH's SA Results

So we got DH's SA back last week and honestly we were a bit shocked. I think we were both expecting it to be fine and that the issues were just with me.

I wasn't able to discuss with the doctor too much, and will at the next appt, but my impression is that they are not ideal, but not awful at the same time, but I am just not sure.

Anyone care to give me their opinion?

Re: DH's SA Results

  • His count is fine. Well over normal.

My husband's count is roughly 50 million with only roughly 16 million "live".

Your H has some slow swimmers (motility) (I'm by no means an expert) but I don't think it is a death sentence.

The doctor told us that my DH was "sub-fertile" meaning it wasn't impossible but would take longer (4 years).

Anyway, it could be a lot worse and those numbers change often.

  • I don't have much insight as I am still pretty new to this process and learning...But, I had my first RE appt last week and my husband's motility on his first SA was 31%.  When I asked the RE he said something to the effect of needing to do a "swim up" test to get further information.  While they like the motility to be greater than 50% what is most important is what percentage of the motile sperm swim in the forward direction in the environment of the vagina/cervix.  Not sure if that is helpful at all?  But, I would agree that while your husband's results were not "perfect" they were definitely not "terrible" either.  My RE definitely did not seem concerned with the 31%...
