Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Debating on whether or not to bring almost 6 month old baby with to Vegas

My husband and I have an opportunity to go to Vegas at the end of November to shoot a wedding for a friend. The trip would be from Thursday morning til Subday afternoon. My son will be almost 6mo old and til then I plan on him being EBF. We don't know whether or not to bring him with! On one hand I think it would be best for him to stay with my parents and we would be able to enjoy ourselves but on the other hand I think that I would miss him too much (and him me) and I don't want to risk hurting my supply and him refusing the breast after I get back... Help!

  • That's a long time to be without LO, particularly if you are EBFing. You can pump the whole time, but to me that's a bigger pain than breastfeeding. That's a LOT of pumping. Something else to keep in mind... all of the casinos in Vegas allow smoking indoors, and a lot of hotels have casinos in them, so I wouldn't want to stay in a hotel with my baby where people were smoking inside. I think I would bring LO, stay away from casino hotels, and when I wasn't shooting the wedding, I would check out some hiking, the Grand Canyon, etc. and stay away from the Vegas night scene altogether. I am also EBFing, and I just don't think I would want to be away/pump for that long. But that's just my opinion, you do whatever is best for you! Once LO is weaned, I definitely want to take a trip with just DH to reconnect and leave LO with the grandparents!

  • I agree with PP.  I had to travel for work recently, and it was just 3 days/2 nights but I ended up bringing LO (and my mom) with me, rather than leave her.  (1) I didn't have enough milk in my stash for the whole time I was gone, (2) At the time she was nursing to sleep every night and I was worried about someone else putting her to bed, (3) I didn't want to have to pump that much, especially with having work to do the whole time.  So if it were me, I would probably bring LO, but like PP said don't expect it to be a typical Vegas trip.  Would you bring someone with you to watch LO while you are shooting the wedding?

  • I've traveled twice in the past month with my LO and it went really well so I would say take him. Everyone told me the 4-7 month old range is the easiest time to travel since they aren't all over the place crawling yet. For my work trip I had a family member watch him during the day while I had a 9-5 meeting . I brought 4 pumped milk bottles on the plane packed in ice in a cooler. I called the hotel in advance to make sure they had a pack n play or crib. The one thing I regretted was they had no fitted crib sheet so next time I would travel with my own sheet. We ended up co sleeping instead due to the lack of sheets.
