New Acupuncturist

I loved my old acupuncturist but he didn't specialize in fertility so today I met with a new one. After reading what all of your acupuncturist do I decided I needed to see what the difference is for myself. She cost $23 more per session than he does (he was giving me a special rate) so I hesitated in switching. She checked my pulse and my kidney pulse after each needle and also checked my tongue. He never checked my tongue and only checked my pulse at the beginning of the appt. Plus, she encouraged me to see if the OOT clinic I am working with has an acupuncturist that can treat me the day of ET. I never knew what the specific purpose of treatment before and after ET was, but it made total sense! My cervix does not like being messed with so I think the before treatment to help soften it will really help. No real point to this post. lol I'm just excited to be working with an acupuncturist who understands IF and knows best how to help me. :)

Multiple clomid rounds from 11/2010 to 6/2011. ~ All BFN
IUI w/clomid 7/2011. IUI w/clomid & injectables 11/2011 & 1/2012. ~ All BFN
IVF:EPP 5/2012 ~ (4R, 3M, 2F w/ICSI). Both embryos txfrd. ~ BFN
BCP to manage endo from 10/2012 to 12/2012.
FET w/donor embryos #1: 10/2013 Cancelled
FET w/donor embryos #1.2: 11/2013 ~ ET of 2 beautiful blasts on 11/27.
Beta 1: 503(12dp5dt) Beta 2: 1035(14dpt) Beta 3: 3001(16dpt) Beta 4: 8503(19dpt)
Twins with an EDD of 8/15/14! Team Purple

    I am glad you found this IF acupuncturist. You won't regret it. The extra money is money well spent.

    I'm so excited for you! I'm in a very similar situation- and start with my new Acupuncturist on October 11th. He is recommended by my RE, and comes to the office after ET as well. It's super expensive to have him come that day, but I think we'll go for it.

    IVF prep September 2013 cancelled due to Ovarian Cyst
    IVF #1 October 2013 Antagonistic Protocol with ICSI  ER 10/31/13 (18R 16M 11F- 6 blasts to freeze)
    ET delayed due to OHSS 
    FET scheduled for July 8. Delayed due to a crazy high TSH (it had been under control for YEARS!)
    FET #1 8/5/14 sET BFN

    @Sunny B: It sounds to me like the treatments before and after ET are the most important. My new acupuncturist said the before treatment could be done up to 24 hours before but that the after treatment needs to be done within a few hours. The after one is supposed to help the uterus not contract as much as it usually does. So, while I feel guilty for spending even more money, I think I'll go for it too. :)

    Thanks for the post. I think I need to find a new one as well. My current place doesnt do any of that. Interesting.

    HSG: tubes clear SA: Perfect AMH: 0.9 in Jan 2013 0.7 in March 2013

    Femara June 2013: No repsonse. Serophene July 2013: No repsonse

    Follistim August 2013: 12 follicles, 4 mature, IUI, and a BFN. 

    April 2014: Lost 30lbs, got my thyroid under control. Started IVF 

    May: BFP! EDD 1/6/2015 Heatbeat 167!

    Now: Canyon James born 12/30/14 at 6:21pm via emergency c section. 9 lbs 19 1/2 inches

    @sparkles2040: It's definitely worth a 2nd opinion! I felt like such a traitor since I loved my former acupuncturist. I even told the new one that I was there to see what the difference was and she was happy to explain what she was doing and the reasons for it.

    I have an appointment with my acupuncturists tonight .I too switched recently. My last one did go to my ET when I conceived my dd.

    My new acupuncturist was part if my old group. However, she is closer to my home and my RE.

    It sounds like you are in good hands noed. Remember to stay well hydrated and away from cold drinks and food.

    @DoublePortion- I'm wishing you the best! Definitely keep us up to date about how it's going. I'm excited for my meeting on the 11th! Hopefully it will be worth the $$ for all of us :)

    Glad you found an acupuncturist..I have been trying to find one I actually like.. The one I had didn't specialize in fertility either.

    @DoublePortion can I ask you a question? I tried acupuncture a couple of months ago and I didn't enjoy it. I almost felt more stressed out by it and definitely did not feel relaxed...so my question is, do you actually like having it done? Did I go to the wrong person? She did use electrolysis on the needles in the abdomen (which I thought was strange but I'm like "okay, sure.")  So there was a constant pulsing feeling - uncomfortable. My RE recommended her and she specialized in fertility, but I am thinking of trying someone else in the area. I hate to disregard it because it seems to truly help with IVF. Anyway, sorry for the long rant. Just curious as to why you like it and if I was seeing the wrong person/going about it wrong, or whatever. Thanks! :)

    DH: Low count, low motility/morphology Me: Prolactinoma 
    IVF w/ ICSI #1 June 2013 ER12, M10, F8 - 4dt of 1 morula and one 8 cell grade 1.5 (1 being best)- BFN
    None to freeze
    IVF w/ICSI #2 .....November 2013 - Cancelled - Once again, my eggs matured too quickly. Converted to IUI BFN
    Added prenatal, metformin, coQ10, DHEA and acupuncture. 
    IVF w/ICSI #2 (again) January 2014 ER 11, M9, 4F. Transferred 3 embryos (2.5 grade) - BFN 

    Moving on to Adoption!

    @lucyb82: I find acu to be incredibly relaxing! That being said, not everyone does enjoy it. However, I would deff suggest trying a different acupuncturist. I've never heard of electrolysis being done on the needles but it does not sound like it would be relaxing! If you try a different person and still don't like it then that's ok! Save your money for massages or something else that you do find relaxing!! ;)

    I think I need to try acupuncture...you ladies have talked me into it haha
    2013- 2 IVF cycles with PGD to prevent genetic disorder from being passed on. Both BFFN :(
    2/2014 pregnant!  EDD 10/17/2014

    @lucyb82 I didnt enjoy it the first time at all. I was stressed. I was also hooked up to electrolysis and found it to be extremely odd. I was wide eyed and nervous. BUT the second time was awesome. I knew what to expect. I relaxed. I actually fell asleep which was surprising since fertility meds jack me up and make my heart race. It was nice. Better luck next time!
