Tips for surviving an u/s with DD

Because DD had a UTI a couple months ago, my pediatrician is recommending we get an u/s of her kidneys to make sure everything is okay.  It's probably unnecessary, but I guess it's better to be safe than sorry.
I don't think DH will be able to make it, and they said it could take up to 45 minutes.  DD is so active and she has a little bit of anxiety with strangers, so I am not sure how this appointment is going to go.

Anyone else experienced this?  If so, any tips or suggestions?
TIA!

  • Yea I thought 45 minutes seemed crazy but that's what they said.  Hopefully it's much quicker..thanks!

  • haven't been through it, just wanted to say good luck. Keagan had to have an xray right before he turned two and it was awful, but thankfully over pretty quickly. just be prepared to do some snuggles afterwards and maybe a fav snack and a lovey.

  • DD had an u/s on her kidneys, but she was probably 3-4 months old. I don't remember it taking very long. Definitely not 45 minutes! She did have an electrocardiogram a couple of weeks ago that took a fairly long time... 30 minutes or so, and the tech had me hold her on me so she was laying on top of me. She was actually fairly content lying on top of me and snuggling with her lovey. The techs are used to deal with all sorts of kids, so I am sure they will have some good suggestions and tips for you.  Good luck with it! Hopefully it goes smoothly!

  • I had kidney issues as a child and had to have a number of tests and procedures, so I hope that your LO has no issues. Can you do it at a children's hospital/ Peds office? I would imagine that it would be easier to do with someone who is used to working with young children.

  • Yea we're doing it at the location that is specifically used to working with babies/children, so hopefully their experience helps it go as smoothly as possible.
