DS's new "thing" is rhyming & it's driving me batty, lol.

"Mommy, do you know that chair & hair & pair rhyme?" You're right! Wow!

"Mommy, what rhymes with peanut butter?" I have no idea!

"Mommy, did you know that table & rable rhyme?" They would rhyme if rable was a real word, sorry buddy, try again.

This is my lyfe. Please help.

What's your kid's "thing" right now?

Re: Rhyme Time

  • That's awesome actually! That's one of the things on DS last "report card" that he didn't notice or care about rhyming words. So we've been reading Shel Silverstein to try to help.

It's grosser around here these days - DD and DS have been having spit/raspberry battles. They do it in the car too. Ugh.

  • That is so cool!  I've been wondering if I should point out how things rhyme to J, now I think I will.  :)  Jack has been having fun singing his ABCs and telling me that I need to clap when he's done.  ::eyeroll:: lol
I used to be a big deal.  Now I'm just old.
  • That's really awesome! Evans new thing is knock knock jokes, but he doesn't really get them. The punchline is always "Thomas DVD" said in a high pitched voice followed by forced laughter. Ill take the rhyming thing any day!
  • Thats cute actually!

Griffs thing nowadays is "ma, whats that?"  I hear it a million times a day and I know he's just trying to learn new things but maaaaaaaaaaaan does it ever get annoying!

    BFP#2 06/22/12 (DH's birthday). EDD 02/23/13. M/C and D&C 08/09/12

    BFP#3 02/04/13. Alaina Beth born 10/09/13.
  • DD's thing is singing. She sings all the time. If she is not singing she wants us to sing or listen to the radio. She also has been making up songs. Last night she was singing about loving her stuffed cat.

All of this sounds great, but when you are on the 5th repeat of "ghostbusters" or as DD pronounces it "gah butters" you can help but be testy. So I totally get the rhyme time frustration.

  • so cute! coming from a nerdy speech pathologist...that is a very good early preliteracy skill.  and rhyming with nonsensical words??  so great!  i would actually encourage that. :)

oliver does rhyme...he doesnt know to label it with the word "rhyme" yet, but he knows they sound the same and he things its funny.

which brings me to our recent thing.  oliver loves saying "thats SILLY mommy!"  for everything. hes a goofball.
  • Mine is stuck in why mode: Clean up. Why? So we don't break your toys. Why?

He's also been talking like a baby and it's driving me crazy. He says this phrase over and over again: "Buh buh bah bah?" So annoying!!!

DS does the baby talk too! And I'm afraid I am the one who got him started on it b/c I would ask him to translate DD's baby talk.

I am totally LOLing at this. It's something DS would do since he's so obsessed with Thomas.

He has this nursery rhyme sing along DVD where they're singing Old McDonald & one of the kids sings, "...there was an Elephant!" All the other kids say, "An Elephant??" And then you hear a voice chime in saying, "it's a peanut farm!"

Cue forced high pitched kids laughter. And so DS imitates it & it is hysterical, but so over the top it's annoying, lol.

OMG my kids have raspberry conversations, too! It's the worst when they do it at dinner time. MH has to step away to refrain from yelling at them to stop b/c it drives him crazy. hahah
