How do you have baby clothes organized?

I'm trying to put away all the baby clothes I finally got around to washing and for some reason I'm making it harder than it should be. I'm a FTM so it's hard to decide what will be easiest when I'm sleep deprived and I'm changing her clothes for the fifth time that day. Is there a logical reason to have some things hanging vs in the dresser? Closet space is limited since my house is old, but I can hang some stuff. Do you separate onesies vs tee shirts? Long sleeve vs. short sleeve? Thinner fabrics, thicker fabrics? Keep outfits together or keep tops and bottoms separate? Just throw everything together in a drawer and put the baby in the first thing you grab?

  • I have them organized by size in the closet.

  • Don't think to hard about it. Do what's easiest for you.

  • I am only using drawers for baby's first clothes. I've got all the onesies stacked together, the long sleeved onesies together and the footies as well. Pants and sweaters in a separate pile. One drawer has nb-3 months and then 3-6 months. The older months are in bins for now.  In my closet I have full shelving throughout it so I have different size bins for socks, hats, bibs, blankets, etc.

  • Hanging up by size. Short sleeve, long sleeve, sleepers and all by color. I don't have a dresser. I also feel like if I can see it all he won't wear just the same few items.
  • I have onesies and sleepers arranged by size in drawers. The regular clothes are in the closet by size.

This. I have little seperaters (not sure what the fancy name is haha) that are labeled NB/0-3/3-6 etc that way I know which size is where. They go on he curtain rod. Seems pretty convenient so far. Found them at Hobby Lobby!

  • I have them sorted by size and everything over 0-3 is boxed up in the closet.

As for the dresser. Outfits are folded together, but that's about it. Nothing else is in any particular order. Just folded and put into drawers randomly. Nothing is on hangers, and I don't even know how diligent I will be about folding in the future, lol. I was given so many boxes and bags of hand-me-down clothes that just sorting by size was a huge ordeal. Any other sorting just seems like too much work.

Also, hats, socks, shoes, hairbows, etc are all thrown in a box together with all sizes mixed up. I'm too lazy to go through it all. Can't figure out what to do with the shoes, anyways. I have no idea what sizes tend to line up with what ages and so I'll just sort as we go.
  • Some outfits hanging by size. Others folded in drawers so far.

  • i have a huge dresser, so most is in there.  only the "fancier' outfits (lol) and snowsuit/winter type thingies are in the closet for now.

  • Because we have no closet and a built in book case I hung tension rods in the place of two shelves. I have everything NB/0-3 hanging in one place with the pants on the shelf underneath, 3-6 month in another place, and bigger clothes separated out into drawers, which I will switch out with the hanging clothes as baby grows.

  • I have things folded by size in drawers. I found these collapsible "shoe boxes" in the dollar section at Target and have two to a drawer with things like pants and toys in between.

Things like jackets or special clothes are hung up. Esp if I want to keep a special occasion outfit together.

This exactly, but socks/hats/bibs are in the top drawer. Only have nb and some 0-3 in drawers. Rest will be washed later.

  • I have nicer stuff hanging (sweaters, jeans, button ups) and arranged by size.

I have all the lounge wear in drawers by size but also separated in piles. i.e.- onesies, long sleeve onesies, footed pjs, non footed pjs, pants, etc

    Unclean

it is working well so far.

I didn't read any replies, and skimmed your OP. Sorry.

We have a 3 drawer dresser and I have swaddlers and sleepers in the first drawer (newborn-3mo washed and folded in there) for easy access since that's what she will be living in. Drawer 2 has all her newborn clothes (onesies to the left, pants in the middle, complete outfits/dresses on the right). Drawer 3 is all 3 month clothes.

  • I have a bit of OCD when it comes to this stuff. LO closet is set up in sections that go in this order premie-newborn- 0 to 3- 3 to 6- 6 to 9- and 9-12. Then those are broken down further in this order shirts first short sleeve to long sleeve, then outfits short sleeve to long sleeve, followed by sleepers.
Onesies are in drawers in same order short sleeve to long sleeve and in ascending size. Pants same thing.
  • I only hung the extra cute and fancy clothes.  All the onesies, sleepers, sacks, etc got thrown in a drawer based on size.  Once she comes I'm sure I'll figure out what works best for us.

    This! Exactly!

    We have our "Irish Twins"

  • By size- although I remember last time I didn't end up using half of the outfits because everyone seemed to buy me something within the newborn and 0-3 months and he outgrew them SO quickly!!!!

Mostly this but not separated by color as much. I just preferred things hanging so I could see it all.
Another thing that is important to me is to have the zippered sleepers readily accessible and the button-up sleepers hidden so that even DH can't accidentally find them. Hate button-up sleepers with a passion, not only for the time they take, but also because DH never learned how to line up the snaps and poor DD1 was always looking jacked up in slightly mis-snapped sleepers. It's not that hard but dang it if he couldn't get those tiny snaps with his big fingers. But I digress . . .

Someone suggested awhile back sorting by length of the item rather than size on the tag, since a onesie by Carter's that's 0-3 might be longer than a Gerber outfit that's 3-6. So we tried to do that. We do have a dresser- we have a drawer for socks/shoes/accessories, a drawer for plain white onesies (we got about a million of these as hand me downs), another drawer for leggings and pants, and a drawer for PJs. Since I like to be able to see everything so I won't forget about it and baby clothes are so cute, I hung everything else by length (in sections- onesies, outfits, sweaters/jackets, dresses). I love being able to look at it all. :)

  • This entire thread is making me panic over how few clothes I have for LO. I didn't want to get too many NB sized clothes because I heard they are only in them for a few weeks and what I have is mostly onsies (in NB, 0-3, 6mo) and a few sleepers/outfits in NB and 0-3. All the NB sized stuff is washed and hanging in the closet, the rest of the onsies are in the dresser drawers organized by size and any other outfits or other items (snow suits, etc) are hanging up as well. Because no one knew we were having a girl until our shower we didn't get tons of outfits but I expect to get a bunch now that they do (based upon calls from my mom, comments from MIL and SIL) so I don't want to go crazy shopping for clothes but now I'm worried we wont' have enough.
