mosquito bite

DS is 2.5 and he started having much worse reactions to mosquito bites this year. Last year he barely had any reaction but this year the spot gets hot, swollen but they dont seem to bother DS. I've been using cortisone cream and benadryl but it still takes forever for it to get better.
Last night DS got bit on his eyebrow. Now his eye is swollen, red and hot. He is acting perfectly normal. Any suggestions? I feel like a horrible mom. I even sprayed him down with bug spray.

  • I know I'm a good mom but he looks like he has a black eye!

  • DD attracts mosquito bites like it's her job. And she's very good at her job. She doesn't have the allergic reaction I do to the bites but she ends up scratching so they're scabby.

I wipe the bites with rubbing alcohol and that seems to take them itching and swelling down a bit faster. Plus DD loves to rub the cotton ball over the bites so it keeps her entertained for a few.

  • Well his eye is almost shut so I scheduled an appointment to see what I should do about it if it was to ever do anything worse and discuss if I need an episode pen.

  • DD also has a horrible reaction to bug bites. Pediatrician told us to use OTC itch creams, but he also prescribed an AWESOME heavy duty antibiotic ointment.  We use it on all her bug bites and boo boos.  It is amazing how quickly that stuff works.

I suppose the advice I am offering is to add an antibiotic ointment after in conjunction with your itch cream to speed up the healing process.
  • Ds's Dr said to use benadryl three times a day and cortisone cream. I will definitely add an antibiotic cream too.
