For those Stay at home moms of multiples under a year-what is your typical day like? do you find it hard to go out alone with the babies? do you have help or do it all solo?
My twins are now 16 months old, but I've been solo since they were born with the exception of some visitors the first few months, but honestly we were not going out anywhere at that point.
What keeps us happy now and has for the past few months is keeping to a schedule somewhat. My kids have been waking up around 7:30 for a while. We have milk and breakfast and I try to head out every morning, whether to the library for storytime, the grocery store, errands, etc. We get home around 12, have lunch and play for a bit and then it's naptime. They are up around 3:30 and we have a snack and play and this is where a little Sesame Street video helps! Dinner is around 5:30 and my husband will usually take them to the playground afterwards. If it is a bath night we start that at 7:00, followed by a cup of milk and a story and into the crib at 7:30-7:45. I guess my suggestion is to find a routine that works for you and stick with it. We sometimes miss naps, or are at family events and the schedule is shot, but that's ok. It's not the norm and we just regroup the next day.
It is hard to go out alone at first, but the more you do it, the easier it gets. Also, people love to give a hand, open the door, etc. when they see a mom pushing a double stroller. I have a backpack diaper bag and a hook to hang my purse to the stroller so my hands are usually free. Good luck! You can do it!
I have a babysitter come one day/wk for 3 hrs and I go to the gym/grocery store. I'd love for another day, but I haven't found another sitter I'm comfortable with.
We go out about 2x/week. One for music class, but it took a long time to get out routinely because I pumped and was tied to the pump.
We have a pretty set routine for most days of the week, but it gets flexed on days we go out or on weekends when my husband is home.
On days we don't go out, I go for a walk anywhere from 20 minutes to 1.5 hrs to get out of the house.
We go out almost everyday and have from the very beginning. In the beginning we went to a breastfeeding group at the hospital 2x week and some days just walked around Target but we left the house everyday. I even took the girls into NYC on the train a couple times alone.
Now at almost 11 mos we get up around 7-7:30, nurse around 8 and then breakfast, nap around 9-10:30ish and then we nurse again, get dressed and go out. We usually have lunch on the go. We are home most days by about 3:30ish and we just hang out and play until Dad gets home around 4:30-5 and then we do dinner between 5-5:30 and then bath. After bath we stay in their room and read books and play with blocks until their bedtime bottle around 7-7:30 and then we are off to bed. They sleep through the night at this point.
Some days things get a little off kilter but that is our normal routine and it works pretty well.
We welcomed our girls on 11.7.12 @ 40w0d!

I work from home, so I'm not exactly a stay at home mom per say. But I thought it might help to tell you about our weekend routine at 3 months. We're still working on getting out of the house fairly often. We usually only venture out as a family on the weekends and do one outing on saturday and one on Sunday - whether it's just to Target, to grab dinner or coffee/brunch, etc.
6:30 a.m - We typically wake up, nurse, activity time or go for breakfast 9:30 - nurse and then nap 12:30 p.m. - nurse, grab lunch or do errands 3:30, nurse, activity time, nap 6:30, nurse, grab or make dinner, activity time 9:00, bath and swaddle time, last feed of the night before bedtime 3:30 a.m. - middle of the night feeding, if one of the girls wake up
Mine are 9 months old, and we're in the process of dropping a nap and adding a solid meal, but this is more or less what our day looks like (that is, what we're working toward):
7 AM: Wake up, bottle and breakfast, play upstairs 9-11 AM: Nap 11 AM: Get dressed, bottle and lunch. Outing of some kind (usually) 1:30-3:30 PM: Nap 4 PM: Bottle, play downstairs (in "baby jail" haha) while I make dinner 5:30 PM: Dinner, play, maybe a walk around the block with Daddy 6:30 PM: Bath (every other day), PJs, bottle, bed by 7 PM
Ditto PPs that having a routine helps a lot! The exact times, obviously, can vary day by day, but it's nice to have a rough idea of when to schedule doctors appointments and make other plans. My mom does come over a couple times a week and MIL once a week to visit and give me a hand, so that helps if I need to run and get groceries (I can do quick errands with both babies, but it's just so much faster for those huge grocery trips to go solo....). Also getting out with the babies helps break the day up....esp. now that they're into everything in our little condo. I have a feeling we'll be going to the library a LOT when winter comes....
