Work

I was very frustrated early on because my boss kept trying to "prepare" for my leave... But it was more just talking about who would cover for me. Since then, I have been working diligently to ensure that anything I can do ahead of time is done, and training someone to back me up. The issues there are a lot if things that they have had months to get prepared and are still not done... I am thinking about sendin an email to my boss saying, we should probably prepare as if my Nov 1 I am out of the office. Knowing my induction is the 18th unless I go early. So I still need X, Y, &Z before October 20th so I can ensure that my back up is prepared. There are so many thing that only I do that aren't worry training someone on because it can be done ahead of time but are dependent on someone else doing the prework. Anyway- is anyone else having issues getting all the work ducks lined up?

Re: Work

  • Yes!  I emailed my boss 2 months ago to sort of remind her "hey, I'm going to be out starting in November and I'll be out for 12 weeks so, what's the plan?  Will I need to come home and train someone etc.?"  (I work from home).  She tells me "ok, I'll figure it out and let you know."  I wait, don't hear anything.  Remind her again.  Get told she's working on it again.  Remind her again telling her "at most I have XX days left."  She finally goes "Oh my gosh!  Really?"  Um, yeah.  I've been telling you this for months......She finally tells me I don't need to come in to train (they'll take care of it) but if I could get some training documents typed up that would be super helpful.  Ok.  Fine.  I start working on them.  2 days later she starts bugging me "Do you have anything done yet?"  Ok, I can start giving you at least something to start with.  "Ok, well if you have that done by next week that would be great."  Sure.  Then 2 days later she was asking for everything.  There's no way to get everything that I do written down in step by step instructions in 2 days.  And she refused to tell me who it was that was going to cover for me, making it difficult to figure out how in-depth my instructions need to be.  I eventually said "screw it."  I was trying to make it as easy as I could on everyone but if they don't share the same concern, that's on them.  I won't be around to have to deal with it.

  • With DD, I went out early unexpectedly - I had just started transitioning to a co-worker.  Well, my lesson was that they figured it out and I could LET GOOOOOOO. ;)

This time I am preparing minor stuff earlier (sorting papers), but just last night I mentioned to DH there is no way I can do my day-to-day workload and prepare the way I would like to.  I asked my boss what he needs and I'll need to satisfy myself with that.  I am fortunate that co-workers will be covering so they know most of my job function - I'll leave them some cheat sheets for the other part and wish them well. ;)

  • I've been having the same problem.  I am completely leaving my job after the baby is born, but can't just leave my clients hanging, so I need to transition them to my boss.  My last day of work (October 15th-- 37 weeks) has been on the calendar since June and I've been trying to talk to her about it since then.   I keep getting the "we'll worry about it later" attitude from her.  That's how she operates, so I'm not surprised.  But she just realized today that next week is my last full week--- and she's on vacation.  She is also surprised that I won't come in while she is on her other 2 week vacation from October 28th- November 11th-- even though I already told her that-- so she has no plan on how to keep the office running for those two weeks.  I will come in and sign stuff if baby isn't here yet- but I am only willing to do that once a week or so and if baby is here, forget it.  I'm just writing up everything I can for each client and leaving it at that.  At some point you've done what you can do to try to make the transition as smooth as possible and it's on the employer.

  • I'm not having issues so much as I'm having stress about it.  I've started typing up the document of this is what status this person's file is in etc. and labeling the file drawers near my desk.  But my bigger issue is that every time I bring it up with the office manager (kind of a BS title because there are only 3 employees) she reminds me of how she went back to work 2 weeks after he son was born and things breastfeeding is gross.  I'm taking my full 6 weeks (vag delivery) or 8 weeks (c-section) and I'll be pumping at work--sorry.  Ugh--work annoys me!
  • Mine is super compassionate but they are known for being last minute with getting stuff done... I'm pushing all of my reps to get stuff to me as early as possible, working on my back ups knowledge and speed but there are something's I can't hand off...

  • I am ready for maternity leave too, just so I don't have to deal with some reps for a while.
