Monday Bedrest Check In

Start of a new week!

Congrats to Gsk4874 for the birth of her two girls.

How are you ladies doing? Sleep any?

Milestones, updates, appts?

Qotd: Are you planning to make your own baby food?

Re: Monday Bedrest Check In

  • I feel like my weekdays go by quicker then my weekends.

I didn't sleep too good. I am actually still trying to get at least 3 consistent hrs :-/

Yesterday felt like the longest day ever. DH and I were watching tv all day and just wondering when the day would end!

Qotd: I want to attack to make my own baby food. My mom is really pushing me to do it. I looked up a few things on YouTube doesn't seem so hard not time consuming.

  • Update: 33w 6d I slept well. Hubby has now seen first hand how fast Ambien hits me. I took it and started to get ready for bed, but could barely finish. All last weekend was sooo long. I couldn't get comfortable and nothing really distracted me. I can't wait until tomorrow's MFM appt to see how the kids are doing. The kids are still moving around but the movements are not as big or painful.

QOTD: Yes, I am going to make my own baby food. My sister's nanny made all my nephew's food. It was so easy and inexpensive that I couldn't imagine buying it. She just bought the big bags of frozen veggies and fruit from Sam's, steamed them, pureed, and froze them. So easy and so good for them. Actually looking forward to it. Sounds easier than breastfeeding.

  • 10-4: almost 34 is awesome!  Kneenah sorry sleep is so rare for you these days :-(  I have a bit of discouraging news.  Ended up in L&D again this weekend for contractions.  They were eventually able to stop them, but I will probably be here for a bit.  At my MFM appointment, my cervix has funneled down to nothing and I am about a cm dilated.  I'm really hoping I can hold onto this for at least another week.  I was able to talk to a woman my sister knows who is in almost the exact scenario as me.  She was able to hold onto her little one until almost 30 weeks.  I know that is probably rare, but I hope I can hold on for at least a little while longer.  Any words of encouragement or success stories are greatly appreciated!

QOTD: I don't make my own food, but try to make up for it by buying all organic ;-)
  • morgandegan - you are doing everything in your power and you are doing so awesome!! We're all pulling for you and your LO :)

10-4 GL at your apt tomorrow :)

kneenah- Im sorry you didn't sleep too well

I myself got a few hours last night. Looking forward to a visit from my friend in an hour and then mom is bringing food over. SCORE!

qotd yes I plan to make all my own baby food! Im joining an organic fruit/veggie delivery service post partum so I always have fruits and veggies here at the house and Ill start experimenting... I will also be pureeing EVERYTHING we eat later on for LO woop woop

  • Morgan: The hospital is the best place to be for you and LO right now. Ask them to put you in trendelenburg position. As hard as it is, dont beat yourself up. You are doing everything you can to take this pregnancy as far as you can. Everyday you complete is a celebration. We are here if you need to vent.

This. The Trendelenburg helps and actually made my back feel better. You have done so much. Hang in there.

  • Thank you ladies so much.  I will keep you posted!

  • Didn't get to sleep until around 3 am.  I tossed and turned in bed, got up and wrote some checks for bills and balanced my checkbook, tried going back to bed and tossed and turned some more.  Ended up on the couch and eventually fell asleep.  The cat woke me up because for some reason, he decides to romp around in the middle of the night when everyone's sleeping.  When DD takes a nap, so am I.

No milestones/updates/appts.  Impatiently waiting for Wednesday.

Qotd:  I don't plan on making my own baby food.  I wanted to with DD, but it just didn't happen.  I wouldn't mind trying it this time but I won't have my heart set on it.  I hear it can be a money-saver but I just don't know about the time in the kitchen.  Anyone have any input on how time consuming it really is?  I also don't know how to get it the right consistency.  But I have plenty of time to research it!    <:-P

  • @morgandegan I'm sorry to hear that!  How many weeks are you?  I'm fairly new here.  Was your cervix measuring short with funneling for a while or was it sudden?  It is very possible to stay at 1cm for a while.  I'm wishing for the best for you.  I only ask so many questions because this is why I'm on bed rest, as well.  I have a bit of cervix left but also have marked funneling and am anxious for Wednesday to find out if I've shortened/funneled even more.  Good luck!

  • Normal night of sleep/tossing and turning for me.  Sleeping propped up on my back more these days to avoid the hip pain from side sleeping.

OB appt today went well.  My cervix hasn't changed since I've been on bedrest, so that's good.  I tested positive for group B strep again (also tested positive at the beginning), so I have to increase the antibiotics to 4 times a day.  Otherwise, just very much looking forward to hitting 32 weeks on Thursday.  Oh, and did anyone else stop putting on weight when they went on bedrest?  I'm eating about the same, but I haven't gained anything in three weeks- think the muscle mass loss is probably balancing the fat gain, lol!

QOTD- I'd like to try to make my own baby food, but we'll see what happens when I actually get to that point.  It's so hard to think that far ahead right now!!

morgandeegan- good luck!!  I've certainly seen plenty of stories with woman dilated for many weeks before going into labor, so hopefully with the close monitoring and such, you can make it a while longer.  Hang in there!

  • @morgan, Hang in there, bed rest is the best thing for you and the hospital is the best place for you to be!!  I will have my fingers crossed for you!

I just got out of the hispital again...Went in last night for contractions, they got them under control this AM.  I had an u/s and my cervix is holding strong!  Did find out the babies are 4lbs and 4lbs 2oz....nice and chubby for 31w 1d!  We have our multiples birthing class tomorrow so I am excited for that!

QOTD: There is no way I will have time to make baby food for twins and feed a toddler.  Otherwise I would love to do it!

  • @Sft - I actually lost weight on bedrest - muscle tone is pitiful after being in bed for ten weeks and my legs and arms are so skinny. However, I had issues gaining anyway and my GD diet doesn't help.

  • Sft: I also lost weight but my dr says its water weight and muscle tone. My arms and legs are like jello. Hoping I get two wks after the cerclage removal to build up some muscle back to help with labor. My arms never been every toned so they look extra flabby now lol. DH and I made a deal to try and work out so we can be some hot parents lol
  • Kneenah & 10-4: Thanks, that makes me feel more normal!  I had read that you lose water weight while on bedrest and I know muscle mass has to decrease too, so it seemed pretty normal to me, but my OB seemed confused by it (which makes me wonder how much he has dealt with patients on bedrest, but he's been an OB for like 30 years, so you'd think he'd know these things!).  I do tend to be pretty muscular, so I'm sure that's all going away :-(  I have a couple 3lb pound dumbells by my recliner and try to do a little with my arms from time to time so I can keep something there, but the second this baby comes, or the second I hit 36 weeks, I'm going to be down on the floor doing pushups and squats, or doing arm exercises with the baby, lol!

SMS- sorry you were back in the hospital again- it's nice that they let you go home each time, but it's got to be getting tiring going back and forth.  Enjoy the class tomorrow!!

hjweber I am just 23 weeks and 1 day.  I came in at 19w 4d with shortening and funneling.  I was stable with a cervix of 2.5 for about 2 weeks and out of nowhere (no contractions or anything) I went down to .4 mm.  That was last Monday.  I stayed there for last week and today I realized all the bed stuff.  Hope you get a good read on Wednesday, best of luck!

@sms and sftbalbabe thanks for the encouraging words!

Well best of luck to you.  I will keep an eye out for any updates from you.  You will do great.  You're in the best place you can be.  Keep LO in there as long as possible.  T&Ps

  • You girls are all so strong! I am inspired by your strength. This is week two for me on bed rest and quite depressing. How do you ladies do it? I wanna sneak out. Haha but I won't. I know it's not good for LO. I am 34w3d. I had my baby shower this weekend which was an awesome day but burned me out and what a high to come down from after being in bed all week. Now all I wanna do is shop and get everything else ready for LO. I wanna do this!!! This is the fun stuff. Really struggling.

Morgan: I was shortening at 28weeks went into preterm 32w6d and was 2cm 80% effaced and LO is engaged -1 position. Contractions were pretty intense and about 3 mins apart. They gave me steroids and mag sulfate. FFN test came back positive and 10 days later I'm still hangin in. I didn't think I would make it this long and I don't think the docs did either. You really never know. Babies come when they are ready. Hang in there.

    QTD:
Hadn't thought about making my own baby food but sounds like a great idea!!!
