I'm not fearing today's shots because of LO crying but because of the possible side effects. My moms bestfriend has a daughter that's about to turn 16 and she was a completely normal baby until she got her 2 month shots. After the shots she started having seizures and it all went down hill from there. She's never talked or walked...it's so sad. I'm terrified of this happening to my LO.
I guess there's no real point to this post but I just needed to type out my fears. I'm so scared for today's shots and I've been dreading this appointment since I started trying to concieve
I understand your fear. Perhaps you could space out the shots? Also, try to remember these shots are preventing diseases that could result in the same things your friend experienced. Good luck today, have some Tylenol handy! Prayers for a smooth apointment mama!
Was it medically proven to be caused by the shots? Not to be a duck, but it's not like she walked before the shots. They have soooooo much developing to do that maybe this was a problem that existed but the development milestone wouldn't naturally occur until later anyway.

Not sure, but she had her first seizure the night after the shots
I know it's definitely scary. I was a mess during my guy's shots...but you are much more level headed than me. The fever had me scared, and we stayed in bed for three days (I kept his clothes off, and him in just a diaper and a swaddle blanket, and I kept the Tylenol handy.) He had a temp for all three days, and slept for the most part. I was terrified he would never be the happy giggling baby he was before, but he is DEFINITELY back to normal. My mom just kept reassuring me that the shots are necessary.
My doctor said when you space out the vaccinations, you leave the baby at risk. She said when she started practicing, they had just started one of the vaccinations (I can't remember which one), and in her 15 years of practice, she has watched the number of children with the illness completely diminish. She said it was the coolest thing ever, and she always tells the story to parents who are concerned about vaccines. It definitely helped me out.
A MUST DO: Ask the nurse to NOT jab your child in the thigh. The needles used now are MUCH SHARPER, and the need to jab the needle is no longer needed. My baby had really bad bleeding from the needle jab. Seriously, TELL THEM NOT TO JAB!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry you're so scared! I'd be terrified too if I knew someone who that happened too. I don't really have any words to ease your mind as I'm sure you will continue to worry, but just sending you hugs!

Also I meant dick not duck. I'm pretty black and white, so unless its medically proven I'd call that a grey coincidence. Ask the doc if you're concerned. I really think parents can question things, they should just have that dialogue with the professional.
We just had our shots today. The doctor did tell me to expect a fever and thank goodness I'm not working the next couple of days. I brought her home nursed her and she's sleeping. She handled it very well. I totally understand your concern we want what's best for our babies, hope the appointment goes well.
sending good shot juju your way, we will need some tomorrow for Noah's shots. Praying for all the babies that still have that two month shot hurdle left~
My DD had her appointment last Monday and she screamed for about 10 minutes after the shots, then was ok as long as we were snuggling her. About 2 hours after the shots, she drank a whole bottle and went to sleep. She only woke up once that night to eat and went right back to sleep afterward. The next morning she was her happy, playful self. Just an FYI, my pedi doesn't recommend Tylenol unless they have a fever or are completely inconsolable. There are new studies that show vaccines aren't as effective if a child gets Tylenol right after them.
I know there are very severe side effects of vaccines, but you have to remember they're so incredibly rare. I always think of it like the label on prescriptions: your doctor has determined that the medical benefit outweighs any risk of taking this medication. Same thing with vaccines. Whenever I start to waiver on vaccines, I go read about the diseases they're preventing. I'm back to my normal self pretty quickly.

OMG. I'm nervous now. We just got back from DD's shots. I will be monitoring her LIKE A HAWK.
As far as the actual injection: it wasn't too bad. I nursed while they gave the injections and she barely cried at all. She was smiling and cooing again within minutes. Now she's a napping princess. We'll see how the afternoon goes...
I will def be watching this thread for updates and info!
Good luck at the appointment! I know everyone reacts differently from the shots, but when my little guy got his he cried when it happened, I nursed him then he fell asleep. When he woke up you honestly would have never known he had just gotten his shots. No fever, no crankiness, no tiredness, nothing just my normal happy baby.
I was so worried about DD getting her shots, I'd been dreading it since she was born...I always fear the worst. We went on Friday and she's been a completely normal baby, not even a fever or fussiness. Hope your experience is the same!
I know it is scary. Our ped talked our fears through with us at the appointment. He said his best way to look at them is this:
Did you wear your seatbelts on the way here?
Are you going to wear them on the way home?
Once a year do you hear some freak story about a car that drove into a lake in Florida and the person died because they had their seatbelt on? Yes... but that's not a reason to stop wearing your seatbelt.
Getting these vax protect our babies from some horrible diseases and it's more important to keep current now than years ago because so many anti-vax families have weakened the herd immunity.
My recommendation is to be prepared to use the medicine dropper \syringe for Tylenol. (Open it and practice drawing it up and squirting it out if you haven't already used it.) Our LO woke up from her after shot nap SCREAMING and it was really hard to get the medicine and dropper out of the packaging and use it calmly while she was so upset.
Good luck today! We'll be thinking of you and the little guy. Hope it's an easy recovery.
Awww, its scary but those reactions are rare! Gavin had his last week and he had zero side effects, not even fussiness other than the three seconds of crying after the initial shot, which his paci quickly fixed. Don't stress!
Just got home from ours too. Nursed in the office and am nursing now. Poor girl. Pp with the seatbelt story- thanks for sharing that. It's so true. Vaccine side effects are scary but the diseases they are preventing are scary too! Tonight- drinks and take out and lots of cuddling.

So the appointment was so super effing shitty. The shots were fine and Haddock only cried for literally the duration of the shots. So I got lucky there. As soon as I picked him up he was fine I nursed him and then we went grocery shopping.
The shitty part... I knew he was small but I didn't realize how small. He only gained 11oz since his one month appt. The pediatrician told me to give him 2oz after every feeding for the next 2 weeks and then we're going to weigh him and go from there I'm really sad. He said the infection I have on my nipples probably decreased my supply. It should rebound though, hopefully. I wish I had known sooner that I had that stupid infection... how did I not know??
So that's where we are and I'm sad. I gave him his first bottle of formula a little while ago. I almost cried. It's ok though... he drank it really well and he's a happy baby.
Have I been starving him all of his life and not known it? I feel so guilty. He never acts like he's hungry after eating and even unlatches himself... I don't understand.
Anyway, thank you all for your kind words and I'm going to reply to some of the messages individually here in a little while when I get a chance
DD had her appointment today. It was heartbreaking. So far she has just been sleeping, but woke up once crying hysterically. Hope everyone else's appointments and nights go smoothly!
Glad the shots went well but sorry to hear you are feeling down about his weight and supplementing. You were not starving him, he would have let you know if you were! I am sure your supply will increase and all will be well! My LO did fine at his shots then napped, but then when he woke up he cried hysterically for an hour! Poor guy. He wore himself out and went back to sleep though. Hopefully tonight goes okay for all of us whose babies had their shots today!
Please don't beat yourself up! From how you talk about your lo here, he is so lucky to have a loving mom in you.. He will take the formula, gain weight, you will heal and all this stress will soon be forgotten
The same thing happened to me at his 2 week appt! They had me come in each week to weigh him and he just wasn't gaining much at all. I bawled my head off when I fed him his first formula bottle when he was about a month old.
He had me switch over to soy today, so I'm hoping it will help his little tummy. My plan is to get him off formula soon and back to full time breast milk.
I'm sorry you were sad . Is there a lactation support group you can go to? I've been going every week and they have scales so you can see the baby's weight gain progress. It's really helpful.
All that really matters is you're feeding your baby!!! Hugs... You're doing the best you can.
I'm sorry about the slow weight gain. As others have said, Haddock definitely would have let you know if he was starving! He sounds like a well-loved little boy with an amazing mama. I hope your infection gets healed soon and both of you are feeling better!

So sorry you had a rough appointment! I totally understand the slow weight gain thing. DD hadn't regained her birth weight til about 4 weeks pp! After we got her tongue tie fixed she started gaining like a champ. I definitely agree that you should seek out a support group or LC. Do a weighed feed so you can know what he's getting and I'm sure your supply will bounce back! Hang in there mama! You are doing a great job!
I'm glad shots went well and that's over for you, but I am so sorry to hear about Haddy's slow growth. Such a major bummer. I know BFing has been challenging for you at times and you've considered quitting more than once, but stuck it through. I would feel defeated, too.
He'll catch up in his own time (definitely follow his ped's directions, though). If he wasn't acting hungry and he was making plenty of wet diapers, he wasn't starving. You're a pretty small person, so chances are he just tends to be a peanut, too.
Amber, one thing I'm sure of from "knowing" you on here is that you are an excellent mother. You are so obviously loving and tender with that baby that there is no way you could harm him. He's lucky to have you as his mom. He got one of the best ones!
You ebf for 2 months. Don't undercut that! Nothing wrong with supplementing a bit to help him grow. He gained weight so nothing to feel bad about! You're doing great! Hang in there. Glad the shots went well also
((((Hugs)))) mama. You are not starving him, it happens! We had the same issue with Gavin at his two week appointment, he had lost even more weight since leaving the hospital and I was freaking out. Since he was being bottle fed EBM, I had no idea if something was wrong with my milk. Turns out once we started giving him an extra ounce oer feeding, he started gaining...we weren't feeding him enough and had no idea because he was so chill and wasn't crying like he was hungry. I lfelt awful, like I had been starving him too!
You know you aren't starving him, it was just the stupid infection that caused trouble!
