We are going to fly with DS who is 4 1/2 months. He'll sit on our lap, so we will check our carseat and stroller. Any tips for making flying easy? Did you child's ears bother him/her? Also, how do you pack your breast pump, formula, etc.? I want to make sure that I do everything correct in order to avoid a mess at security.
Re: Tips for airline travel?
Do you need the carseat and stroller? If not, I'd nix those and just carry DS in a Bjorn or sling. I traveled with DS last month and will be again next week and it was SO much easier/faster not to haul all that stuff along. (My parents have a car seat and stroller at their house.) I was able to carry DS in the Bjorn through security and didn't take him out until we were in our seat on the plane.
We FF, and I just packed a bunch of small bottled waters in a big Ziploc, and had the powder formula measured out in bottles. They checked the water at security but it wasn't a problem.

Here is what we did. Worked great -
Packed a huge suitcase with carseat base and bouncy chair disassembled (was so glad we had this as we put him in it while we ate each meal). Upgraded our seats so didn't have to pay for additional bag.
Took his carseat and snap and go through airport security and gate checked both. Was so glad to have them because carrying him around would have gotten heavy and we were able to sit and eat while in the airport. I packed my pump in a rolling carryon with extra diapers, changes of clothes and burp cloths. Didn't want to risk losing my pump or having it delayed.
Took diaper bag (didn't count against carryon items) and two cooly packs of BM. In Atlanta they didn't touch breast milk. In Newport News they held this litmus looking thing over each open bottle (this was a pain in that it took a while but we left plenty of time). We gave him a paci on the accent and made sure he kept sucking and fed him a bottle on the way down. No issues with ear problems and he had a head cold. SUCCESS!!
We flew when DD was 4 weeks. I loved having my Moby wrap. DD slept in it on me & I could nap also. It was great for carrying her through the airport & being able to carry other stuff. I refused to take her out of it through security b/c she was sleeping & they let me but I had to get a separate search.
I didn't take my breast pump. We took a can of formula & bottles with water in them through security. They didn't even ask.
I nursed on take off & landing on the first trip but she wouldn't wake up on the way home & it didn't seem to bother her.
Maybe ask at the gate if there are open seats so you can lay DC down in the middle & play with her some. We got 3 seats once & it was great. We could change her & play with her while in air.
