Baby wearing

So I'm new to the whole baby wearing trend that is going on and I was wondering what is everyone's suggestion or favorite carrier to wear the baby in. So far I have a Moby wrap and a baby bjorn but there are so many different types that I'm overwhelmed and don't know what's a great carrier. I want to have a great reliable carrier because me and my husband are planning on doing attachment parenting after reading Dr Sears book. Any suggestions or reviews would be greatly appreciated :)

Re: Baby wearing

  • Ergo is way better than baby Bjorn. I've had both and as soon as LO gets beyond 12# the Bjorn will kill your back. I didn't use Moby but lots of my friends loved it. I used the maya ring sling and it was great too.

  • DH and I went and tried on several different types of carriers with our nephew as a baby model (he is 9 months old). And we decided we liked the Moby wrap (for when baby is little) and then transitioning to the Boba carrier. DH really liked the Boba as far as comfort and how it transitions as baby grows from infant to toddler. :)

  • I have a Moby, Beco & an Ergo. (Excessive much??) The second two are pricey but WORTH IT. Better for your back and the hips of babies. The cheap ones are just no good. You will be glad you spent the money to get a nice one!
  • I had a Moby wrap with DS, but since I'm on the heavier side it was sometimes difficult to wrap. DS liked it, though.

This time I'm getting a different wrap off of a friend, then when baby outgrows that I'll get an Ergo -- I saw my friend's yesterday and really liked it. I do NOT recommend the Baby Bjorn, they're uncomfortable for pretty much all parties involved. They're actually talking about banning certain front-attaching carriers over here because of the risks of hip dysplasia, and I'm pretty sure the Bjorn is among them.

  • I wasn't going to use a carrier at all, except that I am going to work from home for an additional 6 weeks and I I use a sling I can be hands free and still feel like I'm spending time with baby. My sister said she didn't use one with dd1 but with dd2 she did and it was a life saver to be able to get stuff done because dd2 loved to be held.
  • Forgot to mention, check if you have a local baby wearing group. Some have set up "sling libraries" so you can try out the different types of sling/wrap/carrier before committing to buying one.

  • I have a Boba wrap and a Boba carrier. They are by far the favorite in the moms groups I go to. Second being the Ergo. I'm excited to use both!
  • We have a Moby from DS2, just got a half-priced Ergo and have a great hiking backpack.

  • I'm always the odd man out on this one. I actually like the bjorn. I don't really wear babies for an extended amount of time, maybe 30-60 minutes, but I like it for mid rage babies, say 3-7 months. After that I'm a stroller or maya wrap girl. I'm going to try the moby when my LO get here and I think I'll like that for when she's tiny. The ergo doesn't sit right on me. I agree with PPs that said wait until LO is here and buy any extras.

  • I have a Baby K'tan and I'm so excited to use it. DH got a Baby Bjorn so we will see how we like that, but I'm thinking we will switch to an Ergo Sport (mesh) if baby still likes being worn as he gets bigger.

  • We were given an Ergo, and I plan to get a Boba wrap for when she's still little.  I've heard good things about both.

  • I have a moby, a ring sling and an Ergo. With DS 1 I loved the sling for super tiny stage then the moby was great when he had better neck control. Then I went back to the sling for quick shopping trips and the hip carry. I didn't have the ergo with him but have used it with him several times since getting it and I'm sold!

  • We have a baby bjorn with extra back support, which worked well with DS1. Paying the extra $$$ for the extra support is essential. I will use that in the early stages and once LO is a little older I will switch to the Ergo.
