Everything daycare 5.99?

I have to go back to work a week from today and cannot even get a grasp on this. I know there has been many a post about daycare, but I thought an all-in-1 post could help. So school me on everything I need to know please. Best way to label things (bottles, clothes, etc), how much of everything do I need to send (extra outfits, etc.), things I should remember to tell the teacher, any and every tip you can give would be much appreciated. This is my first LO & I cried my eyes out the first time I dropped my dog off somewhere, so this absolutely terrifies me. Figured the better prepared I can be, maybe the more at ease I will be...hoping that's the case at least. Thanks ladies, I really do appreciate you all!

Re: Everything daycare 5.99?

  • So I'm really trying hard not to do daycare unless I have to (I'm super fortunate with super-flexy schedule) but I did interview at a day care center for drop in care as I need it---the head gave me a list of everything monkey would need:

It was 2 crib sheets, 3 bottles, a 3 pack of clorox wipes, a large box of diapers, a large box of wipes (and by large they mean Costco packs), 3 change of clothes in appropriate sizes in a small rubbermaid bin, a 3 pack of tissues.

I think that's everything. As for labelling? I'd just go the duct tape on the containers with the baby's name route.

They also gave me a feeding/sleeping schedule to fill out with when the baby usually eats and how much and when and how long he sleeps.

I know it really sucks-- but they were so nice...and I'd be totally ok dropping monkey off there as needed. I'd also tell the teachers like what soothes LO best and what they absolutely dislike (mine hates direct sunlight---vampire baby).

    Good luck.....

  • I took DD a little over a week ago to daycare- and it was awful.  Each day back at work has gotten better- except one day last week I just cried all day.  I miss her so much but I try and remember that I have to take care of her financially as well.  Try and keep that in mind :).

DD is in a small home daycare so all I had to bring was 2 change of clothes, wipes, diapers and I bring expressed breastmilk daily so she gets fresh milk first then if they run out I have given her a sack of frozen milk to keep at her house.  I make sure she has her binky and a small blanket in her carseat daily.  GL to you!

  • I used masking tape on the bottles and caps to write Logan's name on, it doesn't leave a mark and doesn't come off when they are washed. I brought 3 or 4 outfits that they keep in his cubby. I also brought a large box of diapers (they supply the wipes). I also brought in a few bags of frozen breast milk for them to keep in their freezer in case they need extra, otherwise I bring 4 bottles each morning (right now they have about 3.5 ounces in) he is there from about 630 - 430.

Good luck and like others have said it gets easier!

It does get easier, but it still stinks.  I brought in 3 outfits, diapers, and diaper rash cream (in case he ever needs it), they provide the wipes.  Every morning we bring in 3 4oz bottles for the day, he is there from 8:30-4:30.  I use freezer tape to label his bottles and caps, I just redo it every day.  I plan on ordering some permanent labels after my freezer tape is gone.  They send home a sheet of paper each day with when he ate, how much, his nap times and at the bottom they will circle when he needs more outfits, diapers, etc.  As far as his outfits, I just wrote his name on the tag-I figure if I want to consign them at some point in the future I will just cut it out.  Don't be afraid to call and check up, I called every day for the first week :)  Good luck!!
  • This is super helpful to me because I'm returning to work on the 15th :(( thanks for asking and thanks for the info!
  • I think different daycares handle things differently, so its best just to ask.  You might want to go by for a little while a few days before you go back, just to chat with the director and see how things work in the class room.

At our DC the baby's each have a cubby where you can keep extra clothes, paci, blanket, etc.  We BF and I pump so they allow me to store frozen milk there and they thaw bags and heat the bottles themselves.  On Mondays I bring in all the milk we will need for the week and all the clean bottles for the week.

I bring in a big package of diapers and when they start to run low they let me know to bring in more.  I keep 4 back up onesies in her cubby because she loves to have poop explosions and sometimes gets several "costume changes" in one day.

As far as label, I just use Sharpie on everything.  The bottles do periodically need to be written on again because it rubs off.  I know some people like to use those inch worm labels but I never felt like spending money on them.

One thing I did that was helpful when both kids have started DC was to have them go for a day or two (maybe just half day) before I actually went back to work.  It made it so much easier.  I could drop them off and then go home and cry in private rather than go to the office and cry.  It helped me adjust to being away from them and also gave us a chance to go through our new morning routine of getting out the door before the actual first day of work.  On these days I try to do something nice for myself, like get a pedi or haircut or something.  It might be too late for you to do this because you go back in a week, but if you could arrange it I highly recommend it!

  • i'm joining the bandwagon of mommies crying because I'm going back. 3 more weeks... not enough time, I want to hide him under my shirt and pluck the boob on him when he starts to stir...

he's such a good baby I could probably get away with it, but I'm not going to push it. Lord know we would have a wonder day when i tried! lol
