Appointment not as planned:(

So I went for my 28 week appointment on Friday and did not get my usual everything looks great!  My Dr checked me and said that my cervix is closed but is softening, she could also feel the baby.  She told me to just take it easy put my feet up and not do anything extra.

Well, I thought that was the only news I was going to get, NOPE!  She also told me that I have gained 10 pounds in the last month and that I was measuring a 33 and should be at about a 28.  She said I would need to retake my gestational diabetes test at my next appointment even though I had passed at my 24 week appointment.

Now my question is has anyone else had to retake the test even though they passed the first one?

  • Someone else did but I cannot remember who. Sorry. Try to take it as easy as possible. I know easier said than done.

  • I have to retake mine at 32 weeks even though I just took it at 27 weeks :( My baby is measuring ahead as well but others here have told me to take it with a grain of salt.

I wish they would do an ultrasound just to see how big he is and see if maybe they have my dates wrong.  Did they do an ultrasound to for you?

No, but my doctor didn't want me to take the test till closer to 28 weeks. I wonder if it is because of situations like this. Good luck!

I had to take the test twice bc the first time at my MFM was really early and they wanted to make sure they didn't miss it so I took it at the normal time too. Good luck!
  • Bigger babies are common with GD and 24 weeks does seem early to take the GD test.

Did she actually do a cervical check?  I'm surprised they would start that early.  But that was a good move if she caught some cervical changes early on.

Yes she has done cervical checks since the beginning because she is a high risk OB.  They are pretty routine for me now.  I'm also glad that she was able to catch it now!

  • Are they going to do an ultrasound to check how big baby is also? Seems like that would make sense.

She didn't say anything about doing one but I'm hoping at my next appointment (in 2 weeks) she will want to do one.

  • My SIL had to re-take the GD test. She passed both times.

My guess is you'll have an u/s shortly. I'm having my last scheduled one at 31 weeks. They'll estimate his size then.

I would definitely demand an ultrasound.  Knowing my doctor, he would've done one at the appointment just to check baby's measurements.  Just try to relax and take it easy though.  I'm sure everything will be fine.

I agree.  I am measuring 4 weeks ahead according to fundal height and they are doing a growth ultrasound a week from now.  Nothing was mentioned about redoing the GD test yet.  Ultrasound seems like a better route to go.

  • I have been measuring large just because I am so petite. I have been steadily measuring 8 weeks ahead. Although I do have GD the baby is actually still measuring right on track and not large at all.

Yea but she is not going to change my date, she said because I'm overweight I could still get GD. The u/s machine could be wrong with how big the baby is as well.

  • I had to take it twice, but I'm overweight. They had me take it at 20ish weeks I think. Then again at 28.
