I follow a paleo diet because I do not tolerate gluten well, and my daughter (whom I am still BFing) does not tolerate dairy well. So I've been paleo since she was 6 weeks old, and it has made life so much easier for us. Until I got pregnant that is. It is so hard to follow a diet, even one that I know makes me feel so much better, when the only things I want to eat are mac n cheese, grilled cheese sandwiches, and cheese enchiladas. I'm pretty good at avoiding dairy because it doesn't just affect me, it affects E. But I still only want to eat gluten-y, carb-y goodness, even though I know I will pay for it later. Anyone else trying to navigate m/s or pregnancy cravings with dietary restrictions? What are your healthy, go-to foods?
ETA: Sorry for being PW today! I'm trying to kill time before a 3:30 meeting, and am SO BORED!

I've also been dairy and gluten free this pregnancy (and going through IVF). That first tri is really hard when you are sick and that's all that sounds good.
I do have potatoes and rice for carbs, and some corn chips and cereals are also gluten free, if you are looking for some non-gluten carb replacements for snacks. Although I don't usually do a lot of gluten-free bread replacement, I did occasionally resort to gluten free bagels or peanut butter and jelly on gluten free bread on some particularly bad days. I was also able to eat hummus for a few days until that made me sick, too.
As for meals, we do a lot of stir-fry with beef/chicken/pork and a variety of veggies. Basically, we pick our protein for that night and usually have several veggie and fruit sides. Although I still have a weakness for pizza and lasagna, I will say to hang in there and it gets much easier!

@TJ1979 - have you tried the Amy's Rice Macaroni with dairy free cheeze? DS is also dairy free and I get it for him. I'm not the biggest fan, but it may curb your craving. It's dairy, gluten, and soy free.

@purpleiris30 I usually try to stick to real food too and not use gluten free subs. But I caved and bought some bread and it was terrible. What kind did you get? I've also been living on chex cereal. Thanks for the ideas!

The bagels were udi's brand in the frozen section, and they weren't bad. The bread was some kind they had in a double pack at costco. Sorry I can't remember more specifically. I ate Chex (there was a honey nut one I liked for something with a little more flavor beyond the plain), some gluten free granola from a health food store, and gluten free instant oatmeal, too.

Thanks @purpleiris30. I have heard (unfortunately after I bought mine) that udis is the only brand to try. The honey nut chex is awesome! Thanks again.

I giggled because all the foods you are gravitating towards are the things I find myself wanting to eat. What is it about cheese (or fake cheese for me!) that sounds so appealing during these crazy first weeks?? Water makes me nauseous, but Doritos?? (As I desperately try to wipe the orange cheese stains off my fingers). I don't have a gluten intolerance, so I'm sorry I can't be of more help in that area, but if you eat it, how long does it take to affect you? Could it possibly come and go where you can possibly tolerate it in small quantities during pregnancy? Sorry if those are dumb questions!

I'm gluten free due to Celiac Disease. I agree with pps about Udis products- all delicious but I'm not sure about the dairy content. They make good gluten free pretzels, cookies, and crackers if you check out health food stores or sections in the grocery store. Good luck!
I've been on the GAPS diet for a few years; it's similar to paleo (g-f, dairy-free, sugar-free, soy-free). I was doing fine during first Tri, but around 19 weeks the cravings kicked in! I can't stop from eating cheese all the time! (and I've been lactose-intolerant since birth! Thank goodness for digestive enzyme pills!). I've also been bad about buying g-f cookies and binging on potato chips lately. I don't know what to tell you as far as sticking to the good foods...because even the g-f processed stuff has sugars in it. Speaking of, I highly recommend Van's g-f waffles!
@MJC1116 Any time I eat gluten it causes, um, intestinal distress? (Sorry, ew.) But with BFing and being pregnant, and not being able to drink water, I'm already worried about getting dehydrated. So the last thing I need in addition is tummy issues.
