Blanket help

It's getting cold enough at night that DS wakes up whining at 2 am fairly often. There's nothing else wrong with him but it's a little chilly in his room (like 65 degrees, lol). He sleeps on a fitted sheet with a few books in his crib, and that's it. How did you transition to putting a blanket in there? I've tried it, but he moves around so much that it ends up shoved in the corner.

Re: Blanket help

  • We still do a sleep sack because she is all over the place as well. There is a blanket in there, but mainly she snuggles up to it. And in the morning is on the opposite end of the crib.

  • @cpasley - can she still stand up and move around in a sleep sack? I was thinking about using one but DS would go insane if it restricted his movement.

  • Bryson moves around so much that the blanket never stays on for more than 20-30 minutes.  It's still warm here, but his room was getting cold since we like it cooler when we sleep, so we turned off his vent.  When it starts getting colder and we need heat, we'll open it a little.

  • She still stands up and moves all over the crib, but we take it off when she comes out so she isn't hindered when trying to go around the house.

  • Olivia sleeps with a crocheted blanket in her crib. She kicks it all over the place while she's falling asleep and I go in and cover her once she's out. I have no idea if she keeps it on but I like to think so. Haha

  • We are still using a regular sleep sack (without the foot holes) because she kicks off blankets as well. She seems fine moving around in it in the crib - she can stand and crawl around. If it becomes a problem, we'll try the early walker ones.

  • The same happens with the blanket for K. It's still warm most nights but getting a little cooler now. I have found that if I put him in a blanket sleeper (not a sleep sack!) he is plenty warm enough without blankets. I haven't busted them out yet this year, but they worked great last year.

Also. If it is extra cold, I put socks on him in addition to the footed blanket sleeper. We also have a small heater for his room that I used last winter.

  • I put Hayden in his crib wide awake and then before I go to bed, he's usually asleep so I cover him with his blanket. He doesn't keep it on all night so I make sure he's wearing sweatpants and a long sleeve tee and socks (we don't do pajamas).
Recently he's learned how to cover himself or "burrow" if he gets chilly an his blanket has come off.

  • We still use a sleep sack too.  She has no problem getting around in it.  I need to get a heavier one for winter, but for now we use a lightweight cotton one and it works great!  FWIW, I prefer the Summer Infant one over Halo.
