Tv time

I use it for background noise but when I'm watching its usually food network or hgtv but we also love our cartoons and Dd will ask for specific cartoons to watch. She will sit for a minute and then shes off playing again. I don't want to create a bad habit but she doesn't just sit and watch so I feel like she's used to having it now. Please tell me I'm not the only mom that has the tv on through out the day.

Re: Tv time

  • The tv is on 75% of the day. My DD started watching tv when I was pregnant and watches quite a bit now that LO is here especially in the morning as that's when its most hectic around here. I wish she didn't like tv as much but when morning sickness hit, and then being exhausted in the third tri, it kept her happy and entertained.

  • We aren't really a tv on kind of family.  We usually have it off, and just watch shows after she goes to bed.  We do have Pandora on through our tv a lot, so music is our background noise.  We do put on something like the Daily Show while I am cooking dinner maybe once or twice a month.

  • We used to have the tv on alot more, but since Landon has started to watch it we have been turning it off. He watches Elmo in the morning after breakfast for a bit and then while I cook dinner if DH isn't home. Other than that we have it off.

  • The tv is pretty much on all the time in our house.  Ian doesn't necessarily watch the big tv...unless it's a commercial that catches his attention.  My mom started it and it's a little annoying, but she gave him the portable dvd player to watch his "choo choos" on.  Now, it pretty much runs all day too.  He'll watch for a minute, then go play, come back and watch for a minute, then go play...he doesn't sit and watch it all day long, just in pieces.  TV is not the devil!  Just saying!

  • Caroline specifically asks for "Mimnie" now.  I wish she didn't but I can get SD's homework started and dinner going while she watches 1 episode.  She likes "babeball" so she watches that with daddy and of course college football on Saturday.  We did major house cleaning yesterday and I needed her distracted so she watched several episodes yesterday but we really needed to get the cleaning done and if she wasn't watching Minnie she was making a mess.

  • We aren't a TV on family, either. J loves Sesame Street, but doesn't really care about anything else on TV. We Tivo Sesame Street, and use it when he needs some down time, or when one of us is alone with him and needs to shower or cook. He probably watches 3-4 episodes a week, and sometimes not the whole episode at once.
After he goes to bed, H turns the TV on immediately, but that's a whole other discussion.....

  • I also have a 4 year old boy...we have the tv on a lot, even if we aren't watching it.  I know it is bad, but it is how we are :)
