Hi - I had my second baby this past Monday and I was wondering how soon after birth I could lift my 19 month old, he weighs 28 lbs. they told me about 3 weeks but that seems so long. And I want to hold my baby. Thanks!
Vaginal delivery or c-section? My I had both of my DDs via vaginal deliveries, and I picked up DS (after #2 was born) when he came to see me in the hospital (he was 24 lbs). After having #3, I waited maybe a week to pick up DD#1 and get her out of her crib (she was about 26 lbs). You gotta do what you gotta do. Try not to do it a lot, but my DH had gone back to work and I needed to take care of all 3 kids by myself. Impossible to get DD#1 in and out of her crib without picking her up! Good luck, and welcome to 2u2!
If it was a vagunal delivery you shouldn't have a problem. I picked up my 35lb son as well as my 26lb daughter today after delivering my third yesterday.
Don't do it until they give you the go ahead! I over did it lifting my first and am so paying for it now. I am on heavy painkillers and it still hurts...
If you possibly can, wait the three weeks. You will heal faster and probably better by waiting. Whenever possible have your oldest climb into your lap vs. you lifting him up. I lifted my son who was 14 months from the day his sister was born. I could definitely tell that it took longer to heal the second time around despite an easier delivery.
