What to sleep on?

We're going away in two weeks on vacation. DD will stay with H's parents for three nights while H and I are visiting friends. The fear I have about leaving her is a whole nother post, but to a practical question...

What should she sleep on at their house?

They don't have a crib. They do have a pack n play but the last time we used one if those (late July), she slept terribly. I think it's just not big enough any more. Girl likes her space.

Is a nap mat possible for overnight? Would you try to make do with the pnp? (After all, we won't be there! Zing!)

Re: What to sleep on?

  • We would use the PNP.  There is no way DS would sleep on a mat.

  • When Kate stays at my mom's house, we use a Pack n Play but I bought an extra thick, 5 inch mattress for it so it's more comfortable. It's only one inch thinner than her crib mattress, and she seems to sleep better on it than the thin one that comes with the Pack n Play.
  • I would definitely use a pack n play; I wouldn't feel comfortable just having her on a mat on the floor. Also, I would advise against using a mattress that did not come with the pack n play in it. This can be a safety hazard.
  • I would use the pack n play for sure.  There is no way DS would sleep on a mat on the floor.

  • I would use the pnp. I know it's not ideal but I would worry about a mat overnight.

Then and now. How did my boy get so big?

  • Pnp. Also I don't think it's a good idea to use a different mattress with it. It could be a suffocation risk. I wouldn't chance that.

Except the mattress that I mentioned is made for Pack n Plays. Otherwise I would agree.
  • We always use the pnp when we go on trips. I would be to afraid she would get up and get hurt in the middle of the night if not contained in the pnp

  • Where do they live? Any chance it is a large enough town or vacation destination that has a baby rental service? We have rented full size cribs on trips to Park City, Nashville, the Delaware shore, and the Outer Banks. The rental services will drop off and pick up, so it may be worth googling. Alternatively, you could buy an IKEA crib and inexpensive mattress to keep there? Especially if there are any other kids in the family, or will be in the future, who may want to visit. My parents have a full size crib for when we visit or when they take care of my nephew overnight, and. It makes it easy to visit them.

  • We usually use a PNP when we go visiting family, or he will asleep with me in the bed (like when we travel on a train when there's no room).
