Successful cerclage removal

Cannot believe we have made it here. Had a successful cerclage removal two days ago (input at 12 weeks). After having my first loss at 18 weeks its amazing to think I'm at 37 weeks and am really going to be bringing home our little boy soon.

As a side note (bec I was extremely curious in the beginning) the procedure itself did not hurt at all. Didn't feel a thing. The only discomfort I had was the initial prep with the speculum (been on pelvic rest since we found out we were expecting) and the ointment application with gauze at the end. Had the procedure in L&D as a precaution and was not on any pain killers. Minor brown spotting as expected but no cramping.

Good luck to all you ladies that have had a cerclage done as its amazing as to what this procedure did for my SO and I!

Now if we could just figure out why LO's kidneys are dialated I'd be a happy momma!

Re: Successful cerclage removal

  • Did you have bed rest or anything, other than pelvic rest?

  • I did not. I was lucky and was able to have normal activity (with a weight lifting restriction of no more than 20 lbs).
  • Thank you for posting this.  I just got my cerclage put in a couple weeks ago and I love to hear success stories.  I often wonder if I will make it to the 36 week removal, we lost our daughter last pregnancy at 22 weeks.  I'll be 16 weeks on Thursday so I can feel the anxiety rising as we get closer.
