DS gets 2 bottles a day typically. One 8 oz bottle while with the sitter and one bottle before bed, usually 12oz. He is nursed for any other feeding.
I don't think these are typical amounts but he's a little piggy.
DS will be 6 months on the 4th of October and he takes between 5-6 oz per feeding while at daycare. Right now he is eating 3 bottles while in daycare each day.
LO takes 3 6 oz bottles while at daycare. I bf him in the morning, after work and sometimes during the night once. He gets a bottle of formula before bed and drinks 4-6 oz. He's 5 months.
Before supplementing, he took 3, 9oz bottles of bm and nursed twice. Now, he takes 2 12oz bottles, which includes 2oz of formula in each. He's also eating a few ounces of purées, three times daily.
12 oz?! Holy jaysus that's a lot at once. Your kiddo must have a giant tummy! I don't want to see your grocery bill when he's a teenager.
DD takes 4-5 oz 3 times a day while I'm at work. I think DS was 6 oz usually.
My son is ff. He drinks 6 oz in is morning and night bottle and 5 oz for the other 3 or 4---27-32oz/day. Also, if your LO has a tough time with the bottle maybe try the brown latex nipples, assuming your child does not have a latex allergy. (Playtex bottles have them) They are not as stiff and are softer like the breast. I have had several cases of success with this in my infant room. GL

6 or 7 ounces 3x a day at the sitter. The first time I left him with my mom at 3 months, I left 4 ounces and he wanted more and fussed after each feeding, so I left 5 for her the rest if the week.
EBF here, and he's 19 lbs. I do not allow the caregiver to feed more than 4 oz at a time.
Our lactation consultant told me it's not good to allow them to have more than that at a feeding because you can't provide that amount when they nurse... if they're still hungry they should be fed more often - not more at a time. She also said the rule of thumb is 1 - 1.5 oz per hour of separation... so you know how much to leave.
Thanks for the responses. DH gave DD her first bottle and she drank it (thank goodness)! We had to change the nipple and then she was happy. We only gave her 3oz but DH says he thinks she could do 4 or 5 so we will try that as it seems about the average. I am still nervous about leaving her and DS with my mom for a wedding this weekend but it will be nice for DH and I and good for me to let go a little.

I don't believe this statement one bit. When DS is with the sitter I pump at the same time that she feeds him and I easily get 8 oz. So he would certainly eat at least 8oz from me if he nursed at that time.

DS is 1 week shy of 6m old and a good 20lbs.
Its prob different for everyone but I have never been able to get more than 4.5 oz, and that is my first morning pump. The rest of the day I get 2.5 - 4 oz.
3 oz??? Why so little? My little guy was on 6 oz every 3 hours for a while. I just started putting 7 oz formula and he's finishing for the most part. He also gets cereal am and dinner time.
@cece2682 It's different with formula versus breastmilk, as BM gets more calorie dense as baby gets older while formula does not. So as babies get bigger, ff babies will often eat more in volume than breastfed babies while still taking in a similar amount of calories. But every baby is different!

I feel a lot better seeing this post! My son is almost 6 months and when in working he usually will drink 3, 4oz bottles. Anything more and he will spit up but 4 seems perfect. To me if your baby needs more then 6oz at a feeding he should be getting some food as well. My son gets cereal and a fruit or veggie at night as well. :-)
The amount of breastmilk and formula can't be compared, as they are totally different. Typically, breastfed babies never need more than 4 oz at a time (though some will take more if offered.). This is because your milk changes as they grow so the same amount contains everything they need, even as they get bigger. Formula obviously does not change, so as your baby grows, he or she needs more formula at a feeding to feel full and get the necessary nutrients.
Re: How many oz at one feeding?
Never more than 4 oz
