Sorry if this get's long. AW first: we put an offer on a house this weekend and it was accepted! If all rolls along according to plan, we are looking to close on November 8th (my birthday and 3 weeks before my EDD). WHOA! So now I'm in that state where I can't decide if I should be jumping up and down in excitement or freaking the eff out. We were casually looking at homes all September, but this one was just too perfect for us and the price was reduced last week to a steal; we had to act on it.
The reason I'm kinda freaking out is because we have to replace the entire carpet of the house before we can move in; the gentleman who owned the home (only owner ever, the house was built in 2000) obviously smoked inside the home for the past 13 years. It REAKS of cigarette smoke in there (first thing I noticed when we first viewed the home) and the carpets, while clean to the naked eye, are obviously discolored when you open any of the closet doors (and not from foot traffic...nobody walks that close to a closet door and its like a yellowish brown tinge). Other than that, they guy kept the house immaculate; it's very clean and freshly painted. However, I told DH the only way I would agree to making an offer on this place is if we can replace the carpet before move-in and he agreed without batting an eyelash; I refuse to bring a child into a home that smells like that with all those toxins sitting in those fibers (3rd hand smoke = no thanks). So now, as of last night, he's trying to say "well...maybe we can get away with just replacing SOME of the carpet..." He's worried we won't be able to afford to do it all. Ummmm...the whole reason we got a house way at the bottom of our budget and built closing costs into the offer was so we could afford to do what we said we'd do with the carpet. WTF dude?
I know flooring can be expensive (Lowe's is luckily running a deal right now on Stainmaster carpeting though, thank God), but between DH kind of being wishy washy and me freaking out that we're not going to be able to bring LO home there (or that she'll be born before it's all done) I'm kind of a ball of emotions and stress (no bueno). Then we've gotta get the nursery all set up ASAP...AHHH!. Just way too much that needs to happen in my eyes. My sister tried to console me and told me her and her husband closed on their first home a month before my niece was born (also her first) but I'm just worried something is going to go awry.
Thanks for listening to me brain dump, ladies. Anyone else in a similar boat?

Re: Trying not to freak out...
Now with this next baby coming along we are desperately trying to offload said house; same stress, different direction.
I'm thinking I'm still gunna be a brat and stand my ground on this...unless we get quoted back with some RIDICULOUS number.

Congrats on the house!! So exciting. It is stressful to move right before baby (were about to do the same thing).
Hopeully DH agrees all the carpet has to go!
And Nov 8th is your b-day....that is Wyatt's. I swear we were meant to be together:)
2.I recently had my whole house gutted and redone. We were able to order the carpet and have them hold it until we were ready for the install so we wouldn't have to wait for the carpet to arrive.
3. Start asking people for favors now
4. Hopefully YH will come to his senses and realize the cost is just part of the deal.
Beyond that, try not to stress. Do what you can and then realize that the rest of it is just details. Try to stay super organized during your packing of your current house so it'll make unpacking easy (label each box by where it needs to go in the new place and keep a master spreadsheet of what each box is and what's in it and where it came from/needs to go) and you'll save your sanity.
Also, it might be really good to hire a cleaning company to come in and clean your new place top to bottom and your old place (once you move out) so you have two less things on your plate.
Congrats!!
I would either look into having the carpets professionally cleaned,or tell your DH that you won't budge and he can move in without you and LO til the carpets are done.
