Alcohol at Baby Shower?

Two of my good friends (who don't know each other well) are planning my baby shower. I picked the date and gave them a guest list, but that is it, they have been doing the planning. While at lunch with Friend A today, she asked, "Do you want alcohol at your shower?" My response was, "Of course." (Even though I can't indulge, doesn't mean others can't.) I should also add that DH and I host 3 large parties a year at our house and always provide alcohol. Friend A was somewhat put off by my response, explaining that Friend B was planning on it, but she didn't think it was appropriate. I think it is fine, and was actually planning on there being alcohol (wine and a punch) at the shower. What do you ladies think?

Ahh YES! Spiked punch makes everyone have a better time lol And FTR, I got pretty hammered at my shower for DD. I was doing a lot of pumping and dumping. It kept me from crying the whole time.

  • There is always wine or mimosas at the baby showers I have been to. I don't think its inappropriate.

There was alcohol at my shower with DD. I encouraged it.

  • Alcohol is a must! In fact, the last shower I went to was held at a local bar. Suffice it to say, too many drinks were had and the party continued well after the shower ended. The mom to be, although she didn't drink, was right there with us having a blast. We live in a very rough blue collar area where drinking is part of every occasion.

  • I'm having 2 showers and plan to spoil all my guests with food and beverage while they spoil me with gifts. Booze for everyone!!! (Except me)

Do beer goggles count as a side-eye?
  • I wouldn't get a keg and do keg stands, but offering wine or spiked punch is definitely allowed and appreciated by many.

  • Yep! I had my first shower today and there were mimosas!
  • My mom probably won't only because it's an older-non drinking group BUT If I was throwing it for me I would have alcohol. I especially love pink or blue colored specialty drinks and a yummy mimosa for an early shower. Champagne anyone? Absolutely, it's a celebration!

  • My church shower won't have any (big surprise there!) but I know my friends and family one will!  My mom is hosting (I know, taboo) and she likes her wine and knows DH and my dad like their beer, so there will definitely be alcohol!

I am also hosting a church shower for a friend who is 6 weeks ahead of me.  I'm serving a mock champagne punch that my mom invented for weddings and other fancy occasions where alcohol wasn't allowed but wanted.  It goes over great and isn't all sickly sweet like most punches.

Oh I love this, maybe if there will not be alcohol I can bring some special celebration drinks!

  • Of course there will be at mine! Let everyone else enjoy, and I will have my sierra mist haha.

  • Of course! We had a couples shower and I don't think the men would have shown up if we didn't have beer and cigars plus it was an evening shower.
  • All of the ones I've been to have champagne and several different fruit juices to mix with, so like mimosas, but not just OJ.

  • I haven't talked to any of my hosts about this, but I hope (and I'm sure, knowing my family) that there will at least be champagne punch or wine. I see nothing wrong with it at all so long as it's permitted at the venue.

  • I want everyone to have fun and enjoy themselves so YES there will definitely be alcohol at my shower. I don't think there's anything inappropriate about it.

I'm doing a brunch theme at mine and having mimosas

  • Wine, spiked punch, mimosas, champagne etc are fine but I wouldn't want beer or hard liquor. I prefer a celebration, not a party where people happen to bring gifts and expect to get wasted...
  • If I was a non pregnant guest, I would hope alcohol would be present.

  • Yep we're doing drinks! The baby shower is actually at a theater/bar ;)
  • We're having a couples shower...at a winery...so there will be alcohol :)

  • I'm fairly confident that there were mimosa's at mine.  I don't see anything wrong with it.  It's not like anyone will be getting crazy tipsy.  Not inappropriate in my opinion, especially since you routinely have parties at your house that include alcohol.  Nothing out of the oridnary there.

  • I wish I could have alcohol at my shower but since we are having it at a church, no alcohol allowed :( I obvoiusly would have no issue with alcohol being served at a shower.
  • There was a lovely champagne punch at mine, and I've been to several baby showers with a spiked punch of some sort.

  • Every shower I've been to (including my own) had alcohol.  I think it's totally fine and often expected for guests to have the option.
