Artificial Insemination Question

Hi All-

So my hubby and I have been TTC for a litlte over a year now.  I have just completed my 4th round of Crinone Progesterone support, starting my 2nd round of Clomid tomorrow.  At our last visit my doctor stated if this cycle does not "work" then he would like to do Artificial Insemination.  I am totally fine with it.  My hubby is struggling with the thought as he feels "it's not me making you pregnant."  He worries he will always feel like he couldn't do it (although there is no issues with him whatsoever.)  He is scared he will always feel like the doctor got me pregnant not him.  I tried to tell him that it really is still him and that I just need a little help to make it all work.  I also told him I really believe once it does happen we will forget all about this whole process and all that we have gone through this past year b/c we will be so happy and excited.  Has anyone gone through this, or had their hubby feel uncomfortable with the process?  Any feedback would be so helpful!

Thanks...

Re: Artificial Insemination Question

  • We just went trough our first iui and I understand where your DH is coming from. My DH thought it was strange as well but my RE let him come in he got to see his swimmer before insemination and watched the whole process making him as much a part if it as he really is so I think that really helped him with the whole situation maybe aske you RE if your DH can do the same? Best of luck!

  • Thank you both so much for the idea. I going to suggest it to my husband. Its all so stressful and unknown. It is just one big emotional roller coaster ride.

Thosethreewords I wish you the best of luck and hope things work out for you. Thank you for the encouragement.

  • Shcr thanks for sharing your experience. I suggested to my husband we talk to the doctor prior to anything so he can have his questions and feelings answered. I def will want him to be there for the process as I think it would make him feel better. Hoping it works for you!!
  • No.  You gotta do what you gotta do.  My DH and I aren't happy that we had 6 IUIs and are on our 2nd IVF but we have no choice.  We tried on our own and nothing. So if we want to get preg and have a baby the only option is a doctor helping us.  Trust me it totally sucks not being able to just BD and have a baby but unfortunetly not everyone can get preg the old fashioned way. I would remind DH that it is his Sperm and he is getting you preg.  Good luck.

    All Welcome
  • Baby dreams that's exactly what I've been saying for months. I did tell him the past 5 mths I've done so much I'm uncomfortable with and so many meds I'm still not comfortable with. I told him at this point if we gave up bc we aren't comfortable with it then we will forever regret it. Good luck to you

Well said. No one wants to do this, especially IVF. But our dream of a baby over shadows the fear of the unknown. I didn't have any issues with hubby not being onboard, because at first we were MFI and we were both on meds/IUIs. But what I tell myself when I'm having a pity party is this: what's the alternative? Not doing treatments? No, life isn't fair, but oh well! I have a good man, a roof over my head, great family and a good job. So we need a little help getting knocked up. When I'm old and gray and have my grandbabies around me these days will just be a memory. It's only temporary.

That's it for my rant/pep talk lol! Good luck to you OP! These boards are great. I would also check Trouble TTC board, there are a lot of IUI girls over there too. I think a lot of us on IF board are on the IVF train.

  • It sucks, but if it works because it gets the swimmers where they need to be, then it is worth it. I had a post-coital test done and saw there were only a few swimmers where they needed to be after we baby danced. As others have said, my clinic tells us to baby dance the night of our IUI. In the end, we really won't know whether it was the IUI or the natural way that worked. He holds my hand so we can feel connected while going through the IUI. I guess my husband has come to terms with it because he jokes that one day, me, him, and an 80-year old man will make a baby lol. Good luck with everything!
2 years of trying and 4 months of fertility with injectables. Gave up after mc. Got Pregnant on our own and now due 10.28.14
