lrachelle80 - Cloth Diaper Help

I'm about to start ordering my stash and I'm on the fence about getting newborn sized diapers (we didn't CD with DD).  When DD was born she was 7lbs 4oz, and by 2 weeks she was 8.5 lbs (I can't find her 1mo or 3mo paperwork), so I'm thinking I can probably skip the newborn and get some small fitteds, prefolds, covers and a few AIOs.  I've already decided on a few OS diapers I want to try, but I probably won't be putting DS in those for a couple of months so I'm not worried about size there.

Anyway, to the actual question:  Would you still get a small newborn stash since most go up 10-11 lbs or would you skip it?

I've read a ton of blogs and youtubed the crap out of it, but I'm still unsure....Thanks.

ETA: Any other ladies who CD or FTMs who've made their decisions can chime in as well.

  • Ditto the pp, we did sposies for the first 3-4 weeks and then switched to our OS CDs.  I didn't want to spend money on diapers we were only going to use for a few weeks (especially since all our other CDs were OS) and I was too frantic in new-mom mode to do CD laundry the first few weeks anyway.  We will do the same this time.

  • I thought about disposables (and I still might do it) but the newborn rental seems like a good deal.  If I only use them for 3 weeks, it's only 21 bucks which is less than sposies for that period of time.

  • I'm planning to use Thirsties Duos. Size one is good for 7-18 pounds, I think. To please DH, I'll be going with AIO's for at least size one. He's worried about the added complication of using prefolds and covers. Whatevs, that's an easy compromise for me to make.

I decided to do disposables for the newborn stage then switch to CD'ing.

I'm doing this, too, on the recco of my pediatrician friend who CD'd her kid.

    ETA: using 7th Gen disposables.
