Diaper Pails

Hi there!  I'm due in just a couple weeks and we don't have a diaper pail yet...

I was hoping some of you ladies could give me a recommendation please.

Which diaper pails work... which suck.   TIA!

Re: Diaper Pails

  • I also have a diaper genie elite and it is great! It contains the smell and the refill goes a long way. My sister had the diaper champ and her babies room always stunk like a dirty diaper.
  • Ubbi is the best!!

I registered for Ubbi and didn't end up getting it.  I just read some of the reviews and they weren't all positive.  @jilllybean why do you love it?  Do you use regular garbage bags?

We have the ubbi and like it so far too.  The stainless steel doesn't absorb thesmells like plastic can.  I also like that we don't need special bags.

  • Love our Diaper Genie elite. Contains the smells very well
  • I have the diaper genie elite. I love it! It contains the smell and is super easy to change out.
  • love our ubbi! no special bags to refill, smell is well contained. very nice!!
  • We have the Munchkin Arm&Hammer https://www.munchkin.com/arm-hammer-diaper-pail-munchkin

We really like it. I'm BFing and FFing and even though she's had some smelly diapers, it's contained the smell very well. It has a dispenser in the top that sprinkles some baking soda every time you close the lid.

  • Some people say they are just as happy with a regular trash can. I love our diaper genie. You can probably find one cheap, if you like a bargain. I got mine at a yard sale for $5.
    Married DH <3 : 7/7/12; 3 fur babies (2 dogs and 1 cat)
DS born 9/3/13; DD born 7/22/15; LO due 5/28/18
FS (age 5) and FD (age 2) to become AS/AD very soon!

  • We love our diaper genie but we only use it for poopy diapers because it fills up quickly. My dh was getting tired of emptying it every 2-3 days. Now he just empties it once a week

You don't mind poop sitting in your house for a week? I got rid of my diaper Genie for that reason and just got a small trash can with lid.

  • We have the arm and hammer one. I love it, only use it for poop diapers. I have a small stainless steel trash can for pee diapers since LO is a pee machine! The arm and hammer pale never lets the smell out, and we haven't changed it in weeks.

  • We have a Diaper Champ circa 2005 from my first child and it works great for us. Easy to clean, contains the smell, holds a lot of diapers, and can use a regular kitchen trash bag.

  • We have a Diaper Genie Elite and have never had a problem with smells. Ours fills up after just under a week (for a newborn it was probably every 2-3 days), but DD is also at daycare all day 5 days a week now. I never got the problem with emptying it that much- I wouldn't want it to sit around longer than that. Even the pee diapers stink after a day.

It's made well, doesn't smell and is say to use/change bags. We use Ubbi bags now but once we are out I will just use regular ones

  • I got a diaper genie for this baby and I love it. It holds a lot and contains the smell. I wish I would of had it for DD1, but we just used a small garbage can with a lid. It was stinky and had to change it everyday.

Don't get the Munchkin one! The baking soda dispenser thing doesn't work and the lid broke.

    Mine works great.

@redfallon I figured out a hack for the arm and hammer munchkin pail. I no longer have to use any of their refills and we now use garbage bags! DH ripped the bottom out of one refill and we fit the garbage bags in them. Works like a charm!

We may have to try that when we run out of refill bags. I had them on my registry and we got a LOT of refill bags :)
