What do you do with your kid while you shower?

I've been trying to shower when she sleeps. But she never sleeps these days and I don't want to keep giving up showers. How do you keep yours safe & entertained?

Re: What do you do with your kid while you shower?

  • I usually shower when she's sleeping. But otherwise, I put her in the Prince Lionheart with a few toys right outside the shower and take a quick one.

  • He has a gated play area. When I have to leave the room I make sure there's nothig in there he can climb on. I also turn on Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, or Jake and the Neverland Pirates if he's extra crabby. That keeps him happy.
  • like @lilidragon, I shower at night after the kids are in bed.  I love night showers.  I go to sleep with damp hair and wake up with shiny hair full of body and all I have to do is a little hairspray, some teasing and maybe a bit of flat iron if I'm up for it.

    Night showers, yo.

  • I'm super jelly. If I go to bed with wet hair it feels greasy, and looks frizzy in the morning. Weird!
  • I put him in his crib
  • I'm very jealous of you GWP! My hair is lank and greasy if I go to sleep with wet hair. I shower in the morning while DD plays outside the shower. I talk and sing to her to keep her where I want her. My showers take less than 5 minutes. If I have to shave, I do at night when DH is home.

  • Usually I shower when she's napping or after she goes to bed at 8:30. I'm a fan of the night showers too. My hair looks good if I go to bed with damp hair, but gets frizzy if I air dry it during the day.

  • I either shower while she's napping, or let her play with toys in her crib.
  • If I don't shower while she's sleeping I stick her in the pack n play right outside the bathroom with a bunch of toys. She's not always very happy about that but playing peekaboo from the shower every so often helps. Other times I take her in with me and let her play on the floor in the shower. I do that when she needs a shower too, and rinse her off after I'm done.

  • Night showerer here, too. Our open concept living room wasn't made for baby gates and though he's not walking, he's too mobile so I do it after he goes to bed. Sleeping on wet hair gives it a cute and wavy beach look.

  • I usually shower when he's napping or when he's in bed for the night or when DH is home. If not then I put on a tv show for both kids and they play together if I'm super desperate for a shower.

  • I keep a pnp in my room. I just plop her in there with some toys while I shower. There's no door between my bathroom and bedroom, so I can always hear her.
  • He sits on the floor of the shower and plays with toys. I am thinking of switching to evening showers though because I'm getting a little tired of it.

Then and now. How did my boy get so big?

  • He plays as usual and I take 5 min showers. I used to shower during his morning nap at 9, but now that he takes one nap at 12, I have to do it when he's awake.

  • I wake up extra early to take a shower before she wakes up. Then when she takes her morning nap I do my makeup and hair. Otherwise, I would probably put her in her crib with a few safe toys?

  • DS plays in his crib with a few safe toys. He's not as happy about it these days, but I try to be quick. DD is in their room, baby gated off from the rest of the house except the bathroom. I keep the door open so I can hear them.

I think I would go unshowered before waking up early.  You must be superwoman.

Then and now. How did my boy get so big?

  • I too try to wait until DD is napping.

If we are going somewhere are she doesn't seem like she's going to nap I shut her in the bathroom with me. She has toys and I prop my iPad up so she can sit and watch a show. I take super quick showers.

If no nap, but nowhere to go, I just wait until she's asleep then shower.
  • On weekdays, I shower either:
    a) at about 6:15, before she gets up at 7:00
    b) at the gym in the morning while my husband gets her up and ready

On weekends, I sometimes shower early.  Or I shower during her nap, or while DH watches her.

She is very capable of doing 30 minutes of independently playtime in her crib, so occasionally on a very busy day, I shower at that time.
  • I must be the odd duck here - I shower with DS most days. If I don't, it's during his nap or when he goes to bed.
  • I shower before she gets up or put her in our bed with DH. I use her climbing on him as his alarm clock. I tried to leave her in the crib but she chewed on the crib.

  • A. showers with us or I close the bathroom door and she plays while I shower.
  • I have thick dry hair that only likes to be washed every few days at most, so most of my showers are only 5 minutes long. DD just plays in my bedroom for that time. When I wash my hair every 3-4 days, it's usually at night after she goes to bed. I blow dry before going to sleep and then style with a curling iron in the morning.

  • Another night shower person. I used to take morning showers but after ds was born I realized night showers are a must otherwise I wouldn't get one!
  • I usually shower in the morning before I wake up DS.  If not, he has a seat with a tray of toys that he plays with.  I also turn on toddlers songs that I have on my iTunes.

  • I mostly shower when DS is sleeping. If we have to go somewhere before nap time I put him in his jumparoo. Ots the only time we still use it so I can get a good 15-20mins out of him before he is bored with it.

  • Night shower here too! If I go to bed with wet hair, I put a towel over my pillow. Then I wake up and my hair won't be all frizzy.  Now that it's cold at night, I have to dry my hair first though.

  • DD isn't up in the mornings when I am showering and getting ready for work so weekday showers are not a problem. On the weekends if I can't shower while she is napping i drag the pnp into the bathroom so she can see me and she plays in there while I shower.

  • I set her highchair up in the hallway right outside the bathroom door and give her a snack. Then I talk to her and keep peeking at her to make sure she's not choking on food. Since she still loves Puffs and yogurt melts, I keep them on the vanity counter and keep giving her a few at a time while I put on make up and blow dry my hair.
  • I, too, usually shower at night. If I have to while she is awake I either bring her in with me or let her play in there while I shower.

  • I usually shower after the kids go down for naps, so at about 2 p.m.  If we have to go somewhere in the morning, I'll get up to get a shower before they're out of bed.  If I have to shower while they're awake, I just close them in my bedroom (our bathroom doesn't have a door) to limit the amount of trouble they can get into, especially the 2-year-old.  But I avoid that because DD screams hysterically when I disappear into the shower & continues crying at the shower door the whole time.  It's just unpleasant, and I deal with enough crying the rest of the day that I don't need it when I'm showering too.

  • I put him out in the backyard with the dogs and hope for the best.
  • I shower in the morning before he wakes up on weekdays. I get up around 6:30a and get myself ready for the day then wake him up about 5 minutes before we are out the door. On weekends I normally shower during his morning nap. If he happens to be awake when I need to shower and H isn't home I stick him in his crib with toys.
  • i've always taken showers at night. usually i take a shower or bath with DS. if i'm not, DH is watching him.
  • I usually just shower at night after he goes to bed. If not then, then it's while he's sleeping.

  • Unless I have somewhere to go in the morning I take a shower when she naps. Today I met our next door neighbor's mother in my pajamas. At least Mina was dressed!

  • I usually wait until DH is home to take a shower.  Sometimes I can take a quick shower while DS2 naps and DS1 watches tv but I'm risking DS1 becoming too loud and waking up DS2 so I don't do this often.
