Almond butter?

So I finally made a batch of lactation cookies. The recipe I found called for either peanut butter (yuck) or almond butter. I figured I'd try it with the latter ingredient but couldn't find it at the grocery store so pb it was.

While they taste ok I would like to try it with the almond butter. Any suggestions on where to find this?

Re: Almond butter?

  • You can get almond butter at the regular grocery store usually in the health food section. You can get it at whole foods and trader Joe's too. It can be expensive depending on the store, but it's good stuff.

I guess when I looked for it I assumed it was with the regular butter. Off to the store I go! Thanks.

  • I find it in the natural foods section. The recipe I have doesn't have peanut or almond butter in it if you want that. (Nut butters aren't part of the "galactagogue" ingredients, so aren't a crucial part of the recipe).

  • Some health food stores have machines to make fresh ground almond butter. That's my favorite.

  • You can also make your own.  This is the recipe I use...  It's really easy!

  • Thanks everyone! Better question. Regular rolled oats or steel cut? I've heard steel cut will give you a better boost than regular.
  • You will probably like the almond butter cookies better. I have some in my cabinet, and don't know what to do with it, so feel free to share your recipe :) I can't really describe the flavor very well, and I haven't tried it in something baked, but I assume it will have more of a roasted, nutty flavor than peanut butter. It still reminds me of peanut butter, but it's just..different. Most likely in a baked food item it'll be nutty but not peanutty.
You're also crazy for not liking peanut butter. <3

  • Here (pnw), Costco sells almond butter, too, which can help since you probably will go through it quickly when baking with it.
