Plus Size Pregnant Gals Check-in

Here's hoping people see this, even though I'm posting late in PST!

Ladies, it's been awhile! How are we all doing? Any cool preggo swag or experiences you want to share?

I've got two. One of my husband's very close friends at work has been TTC with his wife for about five years. They lost a baby last Fall, and we told them about our pregnancy this week. We told them we didn't expect them to be happy for us, and kept it short on the phone because we didn't want to pressure them into feeling like they had to put on a happy face in person. Saw them at a party on Friday, and the wife had baked a huge batch of my favorite cookies for me. (She's an amazing baker, and I die for those cookies every time.) It was such a sweet gesture, and even later on when she got pretty tipsy, she kept telling me how happy they were for us, and how a baby was a blessing. Thank God for good friends.

I also wanted to share my new best friend: the Lane Bryant plus size no wire seamless sleep bra.

https://www.lanebryant.com/no-wire-seamless-sleep-bra/p114346/index.pro

It's a little weird, because they sell by dress size rather than bra size. I got a size 22/24 even though I wear a 16/18 in their clothes because my ta-tas are ridiculous.

I've slept in them for the last two nights and oh. My. Gosh. It helps so much! Getting up in the night to use the bathroom has been killing me; my boobs settle and when I get up they shift, and hurt like I've got two sacks of wet glass shards on my chest. Wearing this sleep bra my boobs still hurt - I don't think I'll be getting away from that - but they feel cradled and supported, and the pain stops way more quickly than when I was sleeping commando. I'm not a person who's ever slept in a bra, not even a sports bra. This isn't even close to supportive enough for me to think of wearing it outside of sleep - think a really soft, flexible sports bra - and the straps are thinner than I'm used to so they dig a bit when I'm upright. But I only wear them for sleeping, and they don't dig at all when I'm lying down. All in all it's the best solution I've found so far, as tank tops with built-ins tend to be too small for me. And I got them buy one, get on 50% off! can't beat that.

I hope you all are doing well! Can't wait to hear!

Re: Plus Size Pregnant Gals Check-in

  • I'm still suffering constantly with morning sickness. TBH I've got myself a bit worked up about my booking in appointment on Tuesday. I am terrified of needles and I know I'm going to have lots of blood drawn. Plus I've got it into my head she's going to be well patronising about my weight. And when she inevitably refers me to a consultant I am scared they are going to try and insist I have blood thinning injections every day (which will likely give me a panic attack) and worried there won't be any options for me at the birth apart from lay flat on my back in a hospital bed with monitors strapped to my stomach and a cannula in my hand. The idea of trying to be in labour with a needle sticking out of my hand seems mental to me but I've heard they often just do it with larger women as a safety precaution. I want to be able to move around in different positions if I want to. I'm hoping my mood picks up a bit next week! On the plus side (scuse the pun!), I bought some nice maternity clothes in a size 24 from Simply Be and also from Bon Prix this week online. They fit great and are so comfy.

  • @BeckyF82 Oh hon! I'm so sorry you're so worried! I'm no doctor, but I'm sure it'll all work out. I was afraid they were going to make my weight an issue to, but it's never even been mentioned. I'm sure you'll have options at birth, just make sure you have a doctor that makes you feel heard, and I'm sure they will work with you.

  • Thanks. Unfortunately in the UK there's no choice of doctors, you just get what you're given so fingers crossed they don't make me cry! Lol!
  • @BeckyF82 Ooh, sorry, didn't know you were UK. I was thinking I'd never heard of those stores you'd mentioned! I will be crossing my fingers then, that you get an awesome doctor. ;)

  • Hello...hello. Just wanted to check in. I have actually started feeling normal again and that is wonderful. Second trimester is starting wonderfully for me. I awaken early (normal for me) and cook breakfast. I have started getting maternity clothes...and JCPenny is wonderful. I discovered I want to stock up on leggings and dresses to carry me through this pregnancy. I avoided taking my glucose test first trimester (wasn't feeling the fasting requirement) but my next appointment is October 7 so I'll go to the lab and get it done Monday. Happy Pregnancy Ladies!

I'm hoping you also get a wonderful doctor that will make this as easy as possible for you.

  • @BiggerinRealLife....I feel so bad about your breast pain (I was in the same boat) however....when you mentioned the 2 sacks of glass shards...I'll admit...I giggled (sorry). I have never heard it described that way. I'm glad you found a solution that makes you comfortable.

    Sorry again....
  • @BiggerinRealLife thanks for the bra suggestion! I'm going to try it out!

My intern (who doesn't know I'm pregnant) came over to my desk this week and told me how great I looked. I've lost 10lbs (due to m/s) but feel like a giant beached whale so it really made me feel good.

DH and I finally got our house listed and we're so excited that we might finally be getting out of this condo and into a real house with a yard. Bye bye 4 floor walk-up!! We're attending our first open house today and I'm really looking forward to it.

  • Hi all, FTM here. I'm 11w3d and I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to get some maternity clothes soon. Because I was a plus size before this pregnancy finding clothes has always been difficult. And other suggestions on where to get nice, inexpensive maternity clothes? I'm determined to wear lots of leggings and sweater dresses this winter! It's really nice to find a forum for us bigger girls!
  • I'm also doin the leggings with sweater dresses. Old navy maternity had some last year I'm sure they will be out again in a few months and then I bought up a size at a couple at lane Bryant they have some cute ones right now. Most leggings are pretty stretchy so buying up a size is liking going to work there as well.

  • Hi Ladies,

Thanks for the good bra and clothes suggestions! I bought a ton of Old Navy basics and tried them on last night. It's scary because the clothes currently fit my chest right now while there is still room for my belly. I hope the girls don't get any bigger or I'm in trouble!!

I'm 11w 4d today and have been feeling "green" on and off. My next appointment is Friday (solo because I have to go during lunch because the consultant is only there certain hours) for the NT scan, bloodwork and Harmony test bloodwork. I'm already a mess over it.

I told my best friends last night while out at dinner. My one friend screamed so loud, everyone looked. My other friend who had a radical hysterectomy and chemo/radition because of cervical cancer this year cried with joy for me (I was a little worried about her reaction).

I'm off to a wedding this evening for the son of a co-worker. All the ladies in the office decided to go stag since we know the husbands wouldn't want to go. Not really looking forward to it, but I agreed to go and so I will.

Have a great week, plus size moms to be!!!

I don't blame you at all for laughing. I have a morbid sense of humor as it is, so that's actually what I was going for. A kind of, if you can either laugh or cry always choose laugh kind of thing. ;)

  • Hi girls, I spent way too much at motherhood maternity last week but they have the cutest clothes. I also bought some used clothes off of Craigslist, so I am set for awhile. My belly is looking sort of pregnant at this point so I'm getting excited.

  • I'm doing good. This is baby no 3 for me so at 11w I'm already feeling huge. In fact while in St Thomas last week, I had several people ask if I was due in Jan or Feb. I might have just gone along with it to save myself from the embarrassment. :(

Cheap maternity clothes, JCPenney is my go to. I was a 24 pre preg and the 3x stuff from there is comfy.

I think I'm fighting off a bug--I'm beyond exhausted and twice in two days have felt like I was going to passout

  • FTM here! 11w1d and I too have been feeling the dread of buying maternity clothes. But now there are pants in my closet that just don't fit. Luckily, I bought a belly belt and belly sleeve from Motherhood Maternity. So far, so good on the belt! It has helped with many of my pants issues. And I got the combo pack so there is one for dress pants as well and each one has a bigger version for later in pregnancy!! I think I'll wait to use the sleeve for a few more weeks. Thank you so much for the suggestions of places to go for clothes. I'm not very comfortable in leggings and dresses, but I may have to try something. Maybe long ones, but I hate clingy dresses. We shall see:)

Lucky! I'm not showing yet, and I still fit into my old pants most days. All the "your baby this week" things say I should be starting to show, but no dice. Can't wait to start seeing my bump!

I haven't gained any weight either. And I even lost a bunch before I knew I was pregnant, an haven't gained any back. And I haven't been throwing up at all. It's weird. Maybe because I have enough stored up already? ;)

I'm thinking its because we are meeting our calorie intake? I also can't eat much at a time.

I haven't gained any weight either but my belly is really starting to round out. I also need new bras. I tried wearing the sports bra I've had through many weight fluctuations and I was pouring out. And I need to wear my maternity clothes. I can't button any of my pants.
I'm with you here on the boobs. I've noticed my most forgiving bra not fitting correctly for a few weeks, but hadn't done anything about it yet. Then just today, I look down at church, and I'm spilling out over the top! This will not do. Hitting up Lane Bryant tomorrow. Just going to buy one, though, to get me through, as I don't know if I'm going to keep getting bigger.

I thought it was just me...give me some thick vertical stripes
  • Just scored some work-friendly maternity pants at Target on clearance for $10.50, originally &35. Liz Lange fits well in a size XXL!
