Ft Leavenworth

We are PCS'ing to Ft Leavenworth in January for school. Do any of you ladies have suggestions for a good pediatrician? Our little guy is a preemie and will be about 6 months old at that time. TIA!

Re: Ft Leavenworth

  • It depends on how far you want to drive! And are you on Prime or Standard? We just got moved to AL from KS so I can help just need to know the details. Also my best friend is still there. Are you living on base?
  • I'm not too concerned with the drive. I'd say as far as Overland Park or so would be fine. Further if needed for a super doctor. I'm pretty familiar with the area, just not the doctors. We are prime and will be living in town but not on post.

  • I dont have a recommendation for you, we use the peds in post.. They are ok but are very quick to refer out to more specialized peds which works for us.. We have been referred out to optomistrists at childrens mercy. If you do want to be see off post all the tine, you can switch to standard and pay a portion of the cost of the bills up to the catastrophic annual cap which i think is like 1,000 a year.. Or you can present your case to munson's patient advocate in the form of a letter and ask to stay on prime for your visits.. Every case and child is different so they look at all factors while making a decision... If you do find a good ped, please share... Good luck!!!
  • I love Children's Mercy, if your child ever needs a specialist, push for Children's Mercy, they're so wonderful with children and so efficient.  We drive over from Fort Riley to see a few specialists there, so I don't have much advice about peds.

  • Thanks ladies! I'm not a huge fan of MTF's but we'll see how it goes. I'm hoping we can get referred out due to him being a preemie but I'll keep you posted. We actually have to try and get a referral to come back down to Mississippi for a screening in Feb with his neonatologist. I'm not exactly sure what all they do but I know at that point we'd know if he needed any sort of physical therapy or had any developmental issues. I've talked to him and our ped here about it and both tell me there is nothing even remotely close to what they offer here. Ugh!

  • We used Premier Peds in OP off of Quivira, we used Dr. Bush. Awesome! We have a daughter with 5 sleeping disorders and they knew more than the sleeping doctor at Children's. I honestly will never recommend Children's. We are now in AL and well let's just say these doctors are kinda behind the times! :(
  • Perfect! Thank you!  :)

Sorry to hear about your experience in Alabama. :(

  • @LizB8943 Thank you!! I appreciate your input. And I wish you all the best with your pregnancy. I guess it depends where you've lived, but Kansas winters aren't too terrible.

My hubby is in the next course at ILE.

    Thanks again!!

  • Umm just FYI the last two winters in Kansas were awful! Last year we had 3 storms with over 3 feet! And yes that was in Leavenworth and OP! It was NOT fun and I am originally from Colorado! Being in AL now I am so excited to no have snow!
Also my best friend uses Dr. Yu and loves him! She said if we were still there I would change.
    Enjoy the snow!
  • That's our daughter and backyard after storm 1!
  • I grew up in Kansas but lived in Canada for 7 years. So 3 ft of snow is not that bad. That being said, I hate snow and cold and loved our winter here in Southern Mississippi. I'm not looking forward to moving to Kansas in January. Thanks again ladies!
