Any other mom's feel like all their hair is falling out??

LO was born about 5 and 1/2 months ago, and my hair has been falling out for the past 2 months...I know it's normal, but it really seems like my hair is getting really thing and still falling out in large amounts.  Any suggestions to help this situation?

  • Same here. Although I feel like it is starting to slow down a bit. I hope...

  • It's so annoying!! I had already cut my hair short, but now I want to go even shorter so LO can't grab and pull as easily, I'm afraid of washing my hair, it feels like I'm going to get out of the shower bald!

I've been brushing my hair really thoroughly while it's still wet and blow drying whenever I can. It seems to get whatever is going to fall out for a while out before LO can grab it.
  • Yea it's usually normal with th change of hormones. Also if it seems excessive, I would have your doc check your thyroid. I only know about this from working in the profession. I had excessive hair loss and checked my thyroid and dx with post partum thyroiditis. It is very common and easily treated. Good luck. Try some biotin vitamins in the meantime
  • Same here, I had mine cut shorter as well because the long strands were driving me crazy.
  • I just used liquid plumber for the second time and had to cut all the hair out of my vacuums!!! Ugh
  • Me too! Well at least we're not alone...and the good news is....all the women out there who have had babies still have hair, so even though it feels like we're balding, it will hopefully end soon!
  • Yes! I started noticing my hair coming out in gobs at about 4 months PP. It hasn't slowed down much but I really hope it does soon. My hair is noticeably thinner and it doesnt help that I didn't have thick hair to begin with. It looks awful. I asked my OB about it and she said its hormonal and she promised I won't go bald. I don't know if I believe her right now...we'll see!

  • If someone wanted to make a voodoo doll of me it would be easy!! I haven't noticed bald spots or thinner hair, but it's definitely falling out more than usual. Right there with ya!
  • I've heard from friends that the way to overcome this is to continue taking your prenatal vitamins well after pregnancy. Not sure if it is scientifically proven or not. Just what I've been told.
  • Get your ferritin levels checked. If its under 40 you need iron.

  • Mine was falling out for a minute. I started using MSM and Biotin and it started growing back.
  • Mine was falling out a LOT between 3-5 months PP. Now it's finally slowed down. Ugh. Just when you think that pregnancy stuff is over!
