Screams and cries always at 7 pm

My baby always screams and cries at 7 pm for no reason. It last off and on for an hour or so. Does anyone else baby do this or something like it, what do you guys do to comfort them? Thanks for the help

  • Following a period of being awake? Maybe he/she is ready for bed. I know if I miss that window, I end up with a fussy baby.
  • It's called witching hour. Most babies have a time of day, usually early evening, where they are unusually fussy.

  • Yes! My baby often cries for no reason. I just try things over and over. Change diaper, offer pacifier, offer boob, swaddle, swing, bounce, sing, walk outside, turn on music, put in play mat (tummy time), massage tummy, bicycle legs, etc.

I know it is hard. My pedi says that it lasts until they are about 3 or 4 months. Once he has been fed and his diaper is clean, I try not to worry too much about "why" he is crying. Just try and distract him.

My child does the whole 7pm and will be sleeping soundly and seriously wake up at 7pm regardless of what time we put her down. I don't even have to look at a watch when she starts screaming.

  • DD starts her witching hour at 6. If its nice out we go for a walk at this time. We also swaddle, paci, white noise, and sway her (basically the S's). That helps tremendously. It is normal for newborns to have this time of day. I guess we just have to ride it out until it decreases at 3 months.
  • Can you wear her for the hour until she's calmed down? That's what I do.
