High-Risk Pregnancy

Another GD question, Do numbers ever even out??

Hi ladies, I'm 32 weeks a and am still struggling with my GD fasting numbers. I am on 2.5 mgs of glyburide , it worked for about a week and now my numbers are back at 95-100. My nurse/dietician said my numbers should start to even out at about 36 weeks. Did this happen for any of you ? Did your numbers ever get better and become steady? Im Really frustrated with this as my fasting is really the only number I'm having issues with. I am completely terrified of having to do insulin and I'm hoping I can just up my glyburide. I'd love to hear your success or non success stories.

  • Sorry - I don't have any experience with meds - just wanted to offer you some encouragement bc I understand how frustrating and anxiety provoking all this GD business can be!

  • Around 36 weeks my numbers really started to lower. My fasting went from the high 70s down to the 60s. I'm eating a lot more carbs with each meal. I can, finally, drink a glass of milk without fear. For dinner last night I had salad, baked spaghetti, and a bread stick. All unmeasured and came in at 99 after 1 hour. I am diet controlled.

I'm 38w this week and TBH I've stopped counting the carbs. I have only been high 1 time and that was probably because I had a bit if a splurge at Wendy's.... that involved a frosty.

I won't lie, at this point, I've nearly given up. I'm exhausted, I ache all over, I've only gained 17lbs (was low normal weight pre-pregnancy), and I figure two weeks can't hurt. As long as I'm not binge eating on sweets and pasta every day.

I hope you can stay away from the insulin. I know my OB said it can go either way. Some people level off while others find it even more difficult to control later on.

    Best wishes!
  • Mine leveled off at about 35 weeks. I was diet controlled and took 1.25 mg Glyburide at bedtime. In order to control my fasting, I went from 30 to 15 g carbs for my bedtime snack, I also would eat a *lot* of protein with the snack. Often it was one piece of wheat toast (15 g carbs), BBQ Pork and string cheese. This helped.

    good luck!
