  • DH said it looked like a grenade went off in my vagina from the amount of blood everywhere.  Neither of us expected that much blood.

  • I HATED the mesh panties. Apparently, I'm in the minority here! I never asked if I pooped, so I'm going to ignorantly believe that I did not. But yeah, childbirth is grosser than you'd ever imagine!

  • Hilarious. I was in tears. Esp on the mesh panties paragraph. But let me assure you - you don't neeeeed them! DD was born at home, so Im still not sure what the big deal is.

There used to be a hilarious list that was similar on Pregnant Chicken, but I can't find it now.

I do neeeeeed them! I do! I do! I'm planning a home birth this time and I'm already planning to try to get my hands on some. If I can't find them online, I may see if my friend who works in L&D can get some for me.

  • I wasn't in love with the mesh undies, but I didn't hate them either. I'm glad they don't say you won't care who sees what, I hate the typical comment because I still cared who saw what, lol.
I really want to try a home water birth, but my first pregnancies were seriously awesome, I'm scared to mess with a good thing, so I will probably just continue on with my hospital birth....

I'm probably in the minority but I much preferred my own panties and pads. The hospital stuff was too huge.

Oh but the blood! My god. The first time I got up to go to the bathroom... it was horrible. There was blood everywhere. I felt like a big walking Bio hazard .. the toilet was covered. The floor. My butt, legs, socks... hands! I did my best to clean with toilet paper and then opened the door to ask the nurse how I should clean it up. She told me to leave it but it felt so wrong making someone clean it up.

Hell yes and stock up ladies while you're there, for real.  If you want to buy them on your own from BBB it is 20 bucks for three pairs.  My nurse gave me a bunch to take home.  Also those  pads the are half pads, half ice packs...love!

Oh the ice pack pads were the best!!! I actually still have one from my last birth thatbis stashed away...couldn't bring myself to get rid of it! I also still have one unused mesh undie that I couldn't throw out - I'm a plus size gal and the mesh ones with the delivery pack were nice and big...when I asked for more, the ones they brought in a pack of three were too small for me...so when my nurse swapped out a bigger pair from a delivery kit I held onto those and ended up not using them.

  • Any chance I can rewind back to mid-August and give DH a condom?!

No only j/k. The blood part doesn't bother me tbh. I passed almost everything from a mmc at almost 13wks at home in the toilet bowl, so I've done the soaked through jeans in a plastic bag and bleaching the blood splattered bathroom thing all on my own. At least this time around its going to be for a good reason!

I am scared about the first post partum poop though. I've heard horrible things!

  • I've had 3 kidney stones and was told "If you can handle stones, you can handle giving birth!" LOL!! I hope their right! HAHA!
  • What are they talking about they don't want you to wipe 8ifyou had a c section? No one ever told me not to wipe and I had no problems.

  • I was so high on gas and air I was completely unaware of everything. OH says it's a good thing too because I lost a lot of blood and there was a huge pool on the floor and bloody footprints where the doctors and nurses had trod in it. And he said my undercarriage looked pretty bad too lol.

I was afraid of the first pp poop, too but it wasn't bad with the stool softeners.

  • It's not always that bad. I never used the mesh panties or the ice or numbing stuff.  I didn't have an epidural so I was up walking within the hour and go to shower. After that I used a regular pad and the bleeding was gone in 5 days. I used the peri bottle because I had three stitches and it was easier to spritz than to wipe. FTM's Don't freak out. It isn't always a war zone. I was terrified to give birth and after it was done I was all "that's it?" My labor was 5 1/2 hrs. From first contraction to holding my baby. Think the best and prepare for anything.

  • It always sounds worse than it is. I didn't have much blood at all and once I was holding dd nothing else mattered. I think I literally didn't notice anything from the time I held dd until I put her down to go to the bathroom.
Peri bottles are amazing, mesh panties Super comfortable, and pooping? You may not even notice because you're too busy pushing!
  • Don't fret! They were in my home birth kit. Looove them!!

  • The best part about the mesh panties is that they hold all of the crap you've got going on. I was rocking a sandwich of numbing gel in between tucks pads, then an ice pack pad, then a pad itself. Regular undies just don't cut it!

See I guess I just didnt need all that stuff! I think I had it easy.

I too was SCARED TO DEATH of the whole L&D thing before hand. I think its worse now, since it was easy-ish the first time, so now thats what Im expecting again. :s

Seriously?  I bled for four weeks.  grumblemumble.
  • I have had three babies - I never pooped during child birth (not everyone does) - I asked EVERYONE, who might of seen, sure that my husband lied - but the nurses and doctor said no you didn't without hesitation. I don't know how you can tell if you pee during childbirth...lol. With my first I didn't bleed that much. He was 7lbs 11oz... But when I got home from the hospital it was like a heavy period. However, my second child was 9lbs 5oz - I couldn't get up and walk with out a gush. None of my babies ever came out bloody, after reading this and some of the responses, I asked my hub about blood during the event and he said with all three he was surprised there isn't more blood. As for mesh panties - I hate them (I am a plus size girl - they fit... But aren't comfortable to me) - I just bring old underwear that is on it's last leg so if I bleed too much I can just throw it away without thought.
  • Haha! I LOVED the ice packs but damn they are huge!! I had some intense swelling and a third degree year so I needed them badly. I had to have the mesh panties to be able hold it all together.

Totally agree about the stool softener. I was terrified about the first poop after delivery but it wasn't that bad.

  • HAHHAHA!!!  I totally forgot about the mesh undies....they are pretty friggin' awesome. It's like wearing air undies.   However, at that point, you really don't give a sh*t what you're wearing, you're just glad your va-jay is on the mend.

  • Yup, it was like a bomb went off between my legs. Not a pretty sight.

They didn't mention pooping AFTER childbirth.  It took me a good 6 months to be able to poop without crying and bracing myself against a wall while I pushed. That's probably what I am dreading the most.
