24W 2d and on hospital bed rest.... Placental abruption, low fluid and contractions

So I went in to my doctor at 24 weeks and there was no fluid, so they admitted me right away.  I have been bleeding for 3 weeks and have a placental abruption so with the IV my fluids all leak out.  Luckily being in the hospital some fluid has regenerated, bleeding has not stopped and having contractions once in a while.  One night in particular was bad, we thought we were going to have her!  But we got it under control and she is still in there :).  I got both steroid shots and also did t he magnesium sulfate yesterday.

I'm not sure f anyone else has been through anything like this, but maybe could shed some light.  So far she is still in there and that is good.  The doctors keep saying that she could come today or 3 weeks from now.  Either way I will not be able to carry later than 34 weeks, but they honestly didn't think I would make it through the weekend.  Every day she is in there is good!  But I hate the "it could be weeks it could be hours" answer.

Plus hospital bed rest sucks.  I miss my kids :(

  • Thank you. It didn't seem like a lot of people have been thru this type of thing, which is very scary.

  • Ts and Ps your way!

  • I'm so sorry your going through this! I take it you had a full abruption? I have a partial abruption at 31 weeks and my amniotic fluid was down to an 8. I had a ton blood and went into labor and we were told we would deliver that weekend. We received steroid shots and luckily another shot but I can't remember the name. I was transferred hospitals to where they had a nicu but luckily contractions eventually stopped a day later, amniotic fluid did eventually go back up and I was eventually released to strict bedrest for 5 weeks until pre-r kicked in and we had an emergency c-section. My son came out perfect no issues. I hope you keep your little one cooking a while longer. Hang in there and I wish you the best!

  • It's a partial abruption right now. I'm happy to hear from someone who has gone thru this. They are saying I'm going to basically be stuck here until I deliver and it's killing me. I have a one year old and a six year old I miss so much. I got the shots and everything already. I wish they would let me go home to bed rest but my fluid had been sitting at about 3. Being on hospital bed rest is terribly depressing. I want her to stay in there but I wish I could be home.
  • Hang in there your in the best possible place! I better your there because you would be so tempted at home to get up after your little one. I have a 1.5 yr old so I m praying I don't have all the same things happen again as well because to can't imagine being away from ds. And you husband.. Getting his parenting time in! I can imagine my husband would be so exhausted haha. Hopefully you husband will bring your kiddos often for visits! But it is possible to make it to term so don't give up!

@jade7kb, join us at the daily bed rest check ins! I have no advise for your medical situation however can say bed rest gets easier. Of course, there are bad days but being in the hospital is the best thing for you! I recommend picking up a crafting hobby if you can. I started crocheting and actually enjoy it!! Just order the supplies online to your house and have your DH bring them when he visits. I also spent a lot of time shopping for the nursery, DH did not love that!

  • I turned my Netflix back on last night. I talked to my nurse and she said that my situation is actually very rare, that usually when someone has an abruption they go in for the emergency c section and that's it. With also having my membranes rupture and her still being in there is even more rare. I guess it's a good thing but also it sucks that I can't seem to find any information about it. (I am one of those people that just likes to know as much as possible, even if it could be bad). I'm glad she is doing ok and apparently we were a week off on her gestational age! That will put me at 26 Weeks tomorrow. The further the better. The doctor still says he would take her out at any little sign of infection, problem, contraction or anything. I just wish I could get like a day pass or something lol
  • I know it's tough!! I feel like I need to invent something to make bed rest easier and more entertaining so time flies! I always feel anxious to have it all over with but also want to stay on as long as I can for my LOs...it's so tough!

I know what you mean about wanting to be informed! Just take it as a blessing that with all that could have gone wrong you are getting to bide some time for your baby!!

  • Your situation sounds a lot like mine.  I'm 28 weeks 3 days and I was admitted to the hospital 11 days ago when my water broke.  I have a 2 year old and my heart breaks when I think about not being able to tuck her in at night or see her in her jammies in the morning.  They also told me they will not let me stay pregnant past 34 weeks.  I did not have an abruption and I am a little farther ahead, so you've got it worse!   I just want you to know that you are not alone!  We just have to lay here and cook these babies!  I agree you should try to take up crocheting or something similar.  I already knew how to so I am working on a blanket for my 2 year old.  I just started today, because I had been too depressed to do anything productive before today.  Good luck sweetie, and cook cook cook!
  • It is so depressing isn't it?! They told me I wouldn't go past 34 as well. The nurses say that the reason they expect me to go sooner is because of the bleeding. 28 Weeks is the golden hurdle!! So that's great for you! I get to see my one year old tomorrow so that makes me happy :). Netflix is basically my hobby right now.
  • Just joined you yesterday. Walked around all day before a regular OB appt thinking I was peeing on myself- come to find it was fluid leak not pee. Got sent to L&D right then until baby comes. I was 30w yesterday and they are telling me the same 34 w stuff too, but can always change. Luckily no bleeding just fluid leak and minor contractions. I'm still coping with the fact I left for work yesterday having no idea this would be the days outcome, trying to give DD a list of things I want from home was fun- poor guy!! We have a 20 mo dd- I miss her but we're blessed to have my retired parents here and I know she's in good care when DH is here. Thanks for the hobby ideas- my need to do this- I'm very type A and NOT good at sitting still. This should be an interesting journey!
