Starting our registry this weekend! Any advice?

I'm a FTM and I am so excited to go start our registry this weekend! REALLY excited. I posted yesterday that we decided on an outer space (and sci-fi) theme for the nursery (team GREEN), and that has me all pumped!

I've been "window shopping" online to look at ratings and prices for strollers, cribs, carseats, etc... I've got a few things in mind. Everything will be gender neutral, obviously. We're definitely headed to Babies R Us, but will also probably register at Wal Mart since my family lives in a rural area and that's pretty much all they have as far as shopping.

Do you have any advice for a FTM on registries? What not to forget, what I should skip, what you couldn't live without? Anyone else just starting or about to start your registry and getting really excited?

Probably not at walmart, but BRU should give you a sheet of ideas. We just went through the sheet and decided what we thought we needed and skipped things we didn't. Once you and your H get it all done, I highly recommend going back in a few weeks with a friend or someone who is already a mom (I don't recommend your own mom or MIL since baby products have really changed since their day) that can go over your list. I really needed help from my friend when it came to what kind of bottles to pick out.

Also, I know men get a bad rep when it comes to helping with baby stuff, but listen to each other when you have ideas about things. MH was a huge help. I was overhwelmed picking out strollers but he made it easy, and for a high chair I wanted one that goes on an existing chair to save space. But he pointed out that we already have limited dining room seating (4 chairs) so taking up a chair with a kids booster would leave us needing more folding chairs for company.

And my best tip, wear comfortable shoes. You will likely be there for several hours and you will be exhausted. Definitely take a break in the rockers and gliders section

If possible bring a friend who just had a baby. It was so nice to have her help. Plus the baby bargains book.

Have fun with it, and keep it up to date, I go on mine online once a week to edit stuff and I will have thought of something else to get.
We had a stroller car seat set picked out and then realized it has a weird base so then I had to get something else.

Make sure to update it before your shower, things will be discontinued over the next few months!!!! Have fun!

Everything everyone is saying, PLUS my advice is to register for the items you need earlier on. I find it silly when people register for things they'll need when baby is much older...even a toddler.

I would much rather receive the things I *need* towards the beginning than not have those necessary things and have a baby gate, for example. I hope that makes sense.

Definitely get the baby bargains book. It's reviews make decision making much easier. Don't register for a lot of clothes, people will get you a ton of those anyways.

I think the only clothes we registered for were the sleep sacks.
