Baby Names

Sibling for Noelle??

We need a name for Noelle's sibling! We've been going back and forth and just can't find anything we LOVE. Any comments and suggestions would be appreciated. We are Roman Catholic and Biblical or Saints names would be a plus :)

DD1 is Noelle Marie Green.

Here is our list so far. There's just nothing jumping out at us.

Blythe
Britta
Caroline (would people think we named her after my MIL, Carol?)
Celeste
Genevieve (Strongly dislike the nn Genna)
Jillian
Liesl
Madeleine
Naomi

Re: Sibling for Noelle??

  • I love Celeste, and Madeleine if you are pronouncing it with -leen ending. I also like Genevieve and Blythe.

Have you consider Miriam, Evelyn, Theresa?

  • Just as above I love Madeleine (I like -leen or -lyn best but even -line isn't too bad).
I also love the suggested Evelyn!

  • We would be pronouncing Madeleine the French way- (from behind the name) PRONOUNCED: ma-də-LEN (French)

  • I love Naomi, Blythe and Leisl.

I probably would assume Caroline was after your MIL; I'm actually avoiding the name because it's too close to my grandma's name, Carolyn (and then later I found out she was named for a Caroline, so...definite connection in my family).

Suggestions: Jane, Magdalena, Vivian, Gretchen, Heidi, Sonya, Charlotte, Joy, Serafina, Cecily, Amelia

  • I would assume Caroline would be named after MIL, but it is a lovely name.  Off your list, I think I like Liesl the best--beautiful name, rarely mentioned around here.

  • I adore Liesl.

(Which I think is an interesting choice due to both its and Noelle's association with the Christmas story.  FWIW, Liesl is German for Elizabeth, who was also the mother of John the Baptist according to the book of Luke.  When she saw her cousin Mary who was pregnant with Jesus, she exclaimed that Mary was blessed among women to be the mother of her Lord.)

  • Britta, Lisel, Jillian, and pp's suggestion of Miriam are my favorites.  I have a hard time picking between Britta, Lisel, and Miriam an absolute favorite.

I would definitely assume that Caroline was after MIL. That said, I do like it, but if you don't want to honor her, off the list it goes.

The rest of your list is nice, I just LOVE those four the most :)

  • Genevieve (Strongly dislike the nn Genna)
If you did consider Genevieve, there's alway Eve or Evie as nn, instead of Genna.

  • My first thought as Bridgette when I saw your post. She is an Irish saint with a lovely story.

  • Noelle is such a hard name to follow!! When I named DD Noelle Catherine I truly thought that I had found the perfect name. Question(that I get all the time) is your baby a Christmas baby??!! Mine isn't, she was born in the summer but I do like the Christian/Christmas association. That was deliberate. How about Faith? That's going to be my DD#2's name! I think virtue names like Faith, Hope, Joy and Grace go great with Noelle. I love biblical names but none of them jumped out at me as being something I would choose for a girl.

    Thank you!

I also think that Noelle is the "perfect" name :)

She is a March baby, but we were coming up with names around Christmas.

One of the reasons that we are strongly considering Liesl is because DH is set on using Elizabeth for a girl. I love the association it has with the Christmas story as well.

Holly. Completely diff than what you have... But my cat's sister ( my aunt has her) is Noel and my cat is holly :)
  • I think you have a very pretty list.  Naomi is my personal favorite, but I think it's a little close to Noelle, personally.    Maybe two others to consider from the Biblical/Saint names options could be  Lydia or Lucia (Lucy as a nickname?)
