Back labor?

Just curious if anyone can tell me what it feels like.

I know I'm not in labor but today at work I started noticing some lower back pain on my right side coming in waves.

About two hours later I could barely talk to another person through them. Then as I raced home they were excruciating. I sat in the bathtub and it suddenly all stopped. The strangest and most uncomfortable feeling ever....

I'm just going to chill in bed now. Like forever.

its like awful back cramps that feel like your back is going to break in half. when they stay consistent and you can feel them all the way around your belly, then it's probably time to go in. All of my contractions with DD were like this. They were never centered in my belly. All the pain was shooting through my lower back and just got more and more unbearable.

Could you time them? The pain today was basically a constant wave with like a couple seconds of relief. I do not want that to happen again and am certainly going to watch it for the rest of the night.

With DD, I remember it got to be where I could time the most intense part once I was in active labor/pre-epidural, but the ache/crampy feeling never really went away. I've been having that the past few days. Scares me after reading Ezra's birth story just now.

My DD wasn't sunny side up either, and I still had back labor. All I know about this LO is that he is head down. I may try some spinning babies moves to see if I can get him to change position, but I've actually been scared to do anything since he is already head down.

Like @crunchymama11 said, counter-pressure in your lower back will help if you DH will do that.

I agree with the counter-pressure being a lifesaver! I've had back labor with every delivery even though only one of those was a sunny-side up baby. Using a tennis ball against my back helped me get through each of the labors.

How is your LO positioned? If babe is OP there is a chance those were back contractions.

That's how my contractions are too! Ugh makes it impossible to time them. Feel better

I not sure how he is positioned...I thought he was in the correct place but I guess he could have moved.

It sucks, just constant horrible lower back pain. Mine were hard to time and they never were constant. I remember doing child's pose a lot to help alleviate it. Well at least until I got my episode. Baby was sunny side up and she never turned. The doctor ended up turning her when she was coming out. Good luck. Any sort of contractions are not pleasant

I've had menstrual like cramps for 3 days now and my back started really hurting today. It was constant and never ending! Not timeable at all but definitely noticeable. I chugged water and took Tylenol and took a nap and they finally got a little better. I don't know what to call these pains. False labor? Pre-labor? Suck ass part of pregnancy? I'm interested to see if these pains have made my cervix more "favorable" by Tuesday at my check up. If they become timeable, is that when I need to consider going in to L&D??

Back labor is horrible!! Everything @sfshorter said! I wanted to go epi free and didn't because it hurt so bad.

I'd love to hear more about people's experiences with back labor. I've googled it after I was told I could expect to have it (fun to know that going in), but I don't find just "back pain" to be very descriptive.

It felt like a Charlie horse in my lower back. They were sharp and made me grab my back like I do my calf when the muscle tightens. That is the best way I can describe it. And like a Charlie horse once the contraction subsided you still feel the soreness so there isn't any relief. I had absolutely no contractions with my belly so I still don't know what that kind of pain feels like so I can't compare.

Ouch! That confirms my plan for an epi.
