We didn’t really notice anything until Emma started to use her hands more and grasp things. She started to grab and hold onto the sides of the car seat when she would be in it. A few weeks ago, I was loading her up into the car seat and she was talking to me and giggling, then a second later she flinched and she started screaming. I knew this cry was a painful cry and the way she flinched, scared the crap out of me. I took her out and consoled her and she was fine. The next day I noticed (not connecting the two incidents) that her middle finger nail was bruised on her left hand. A few days later the same thing happened in her car seat while we were driving, she couldn’t be consoled so we pulled over and I took her out and she calmed down again. I knew this cry was because she was in pain I panicked. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
I attributed it to gas or something internal, but I was really worried. Later that night we were leaving again and loaded her up in the car seat, a few minutes in it, it happened again. This time, when we took her out we noticed her finger was stuck in the side of the car seat. There are two horizontal pegs that are there for seat belt use. The seat belt weaves through the pegs, and they are hollow. They are shaped like a tear drop so she was getting her fingers into the larger opening of the hollow peg and sliding them up and they were getting stuck in the more narrow part.
We have since wrapped the pegs with electrical tape so she can’t put her fingers in there anymore.
Well two weeks ago, I wrote to the company expressing my concerns with it and wanted to know what they could offer for us to fix the situation other than electrical tape (cause it looks tacky) and told me they were really surprised this was an issue as it was one they weren’t expecting and they were going to send me a new car seat shell. Even though they couldn’t offer one that had a different design, I guess they thought this would appease me enough? So yesterday morning a Safety 1st box with the new car seat arrived at my door and they sent me a whole new car seat with a pretty pink and brown pattern and a brand new base! I was really surprised that they did that. I am pretty happy with their customer service, but now I’m wondering if they are going to continue to make the same design or if they are going to redesign that part of the car seat. All they would really need are inserts to fill in the pegs to make it so babies can’t fit their fingers into it.
Here is a picture of the piece of the car seat that I am talking about.

And here is a picture of the new set they sent me:

Pretty interesting.......
Re: Does anyone else have the Safety 1st On Board 35 Car Seat?
@Kate_C That is what I asked them! If they had another fabric that could cover those pegs, but I guess not.
