Hi Everyone,
I'm new here and I've been trying baby wearing. So far, I've had success with the ergo, but I'd like something lighter especially around the house. My baby is 8 weeks old and I have a maya wrap, but I've been having a lot of trouble getting the hang of it. My baby cries when I have him in it and I just don't know if I'm putting him in right or have him too tight or what. Any tips on use? Or sites that are more helpful than the DVD that came with it? Thanks!

I strongly suggest u go into a specialty store and ask someone to show u. Good luck! Hope it works for u and that u come to love it!
Make sure the wrap is threaded through nicely, and that it isn't all crazy bunched up in the ring. When u put it on, place the ring a little higher than where u want it b/c it will move down a little. Hold the inner fold in against your chest, and pull the extra fabric until it is snug against u. The outer fold should still be really loose.
Get baby and hold him with your elbow up. This will prevent baby from flipping back accidentally. Your hand should be scooping his butt. Lower him in, but make sure u hold out the extra fabric forward and up. Make sure he is in frog leg position. As u lower him pull up a bit on the outer fold fabric (keep your elbow up!). When he settles in, be sure he is centered. Make sure his little fingers are not near the ring. Pull on the hanging edge that tightens the outer fold. Keep pulling and adjusting until it supports baby's neck/head. I like to give it a little fold like a collar. Baby's chin should be neutral or up. Begin walking right away. It's that movement that will soothe baby.
Hope this was helpful!

You can do legs out. I think the legs in/out thing is really whatever seems most comfortable for baby. Some babies just naturally assume the frog leg position while being worn, while some like their legs out. My son was much happier while being worn once I put his legs out. I also thought you had to wait a while before doing it, but have since learned that this is not the case. There are proponents of both legs in and legs out for a newborn. A ring sling is a good one to try legs out because the fabric forms to the baby's body, unlike, say, a mei tai where there might just be too much fabric to do legs out with a newborn. Good luck!
Oh, and I ditto the idea to start walking as soon as you have him in there are comfy. The movement really does help a ton!
