Day care/ venting

OMG. so I'm trying not to freak out but i can't hold it in..

From the beginning of my pregnancy, our MIL had said she would watch the baby after I had back to work. So we were like awesome! she had spent most of her life watching people's kids for a living so we totally trust her, besides that fact that she's grandma. We went thru talks with her bout the hours and how much we would give her etc.

Now this month she goes and tells us that she's not going to do it....... WTF... I'm not saying I can't understand the reasons she put up, BUT it's like we had it all planned and talked out and she was ALL FOR IT...and then BAM... >.< I want to cry... I'm like two months away from birth and now I have to think about daycare options and I don't even think I can AFFORD it. >.< And then my husband's comments on not being able to afford it with well you should look for a new job... REALLY that is not helping... I feel like I'm chasing my tail... and unlike dogs, I'm not enjoying any of this....

Does anyone know of any affordable and good places in the jersey city area that take infants? Other suggestions?

Re: Day care/ venting

  • wow that is really frustrating!!  Its kind of rude of her to tell you that she would do it and then only 2 months left and she has told you she won't now.  That doesn't give you a lot of time to decide what and who to have as a day care.  I know in the Nebraska area day cares go really fast and so we were on a waiting list because not everyone takes infants and some can only have so much infants.  But hopefully you can find one soon!!

In regards to not being able to afford it, would you be able to afford not working you think?  Or working part time?  I don't know your work situation but I wonder if that would work??  Good Luck!!

  • Is getting in-home help a possibility? It's not always the most expensive choice.

  • Well the thing is we just bought a condo in july. So money was dropped there. At the moment, unless Hubby gets an AMAZING raise, there's no way I can stay home, even tho i would love to.

I heard about the waiting list thing too. I don't know how long it is here. I started to look up daycares and they didn't say how long or if there is a wait. when i call they just insist that you come down and look at the place and talk there then over the phone.

sigh. and Hubby doesn't see the urge. His like YOU got a couple of months to figure it out.... =(
  • I'd like into financial help. In Florida we have what's called "School Readiness" and they help working parents and parents going to school afford daycare.
